Job Summary

THE POSITION: The School Psychologist shall conduct multidisciplinary psycho-educational evaluations of students from diverse backgrounds who demonstrate unique needs; counsel students with eclectic evidence-based counseling interventions (e.g., DBT, CBT, Mindfulness); parent counseling and training; provide trauma informed care practices; prepare recommendations regarding the education and placement of students; inform IEP Teams, parents and administrators regarding educational benefit and the least restrictive environment of students; provide leadership and training in crisis intervention, development of Behavior Intervention Plans, instructional modifications and therapeutic environments to assist in the development of positive and caring school cultures; contribute to the development and maintenance of positive relationships within the school and between the school, parents and private and public agencies; assist with school operations as needed; carry out duties under the supervision of the school principal or assistant principal. The position is not responsible for supervising staff. The position requires eight hours on the job daily. Additionally, since the school psychologist is considered an employee exempt from overtime there will be times the assigned professional responsibilities cannot be discharged within rigid time requirements. Employees in these categories are expected to be on duty during the hours that the Los Angeles County Office of Education requires their services. It is also recognized that these positions may involve evening and weekend responsibilities. For these reasons, exempt positions are normally paid at a higher salary rate and accrue vacation at a higher rate than non-exempt positions.

Requirements / Qualifications

EDUCATION: A Master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. See below for step by-step instructions.): • Possess and maintain a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing service in school psychology.
