About the Department
To establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill current and future part time assignments (both substitute and permanent) for the duration of the list, up to one year. The current vacancy is a part-time position (up to 18.75 hours per week), primarily evenings and some weekends.
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Completed applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. one week prior to the exam date. Late applications and/or certificates will not be accepted.
TESTING PROCESS:
A) Multiple Choice Test = 40% weighting on final score
Tentatively scheduled for the week of September 29, 2025.
B) Structured Interview = 60% weighting on final score
Tentatively scheduled for the week of October 6, 2025.
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications stated in the job posting by the application deadline in order to move forward in the testing process. Those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to the multiple choice test. Those with the highest scores on the multiple choice test will be invited to the structured interview. The testing process is subject to change as needs dictate. Purpose Statement
Under the direction of the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, the Athletic Trainer - Classified - supports the health and safety of student-athletes through injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. This position provides supervision and instructional support for students enrolled in the Career Technical Education (CTE) Sports Medicine Pathway. The Athletic Trainer serves high school campuses, assists with student supervision and skill development, and may independently oversee students when the CTE teacher is assigned to a different site, working along with the coaching staff. The Athletic Trainer must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary to support athletic activities. A valid Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) issued by the Board of Certification (BOC) for the National Athletic Trainers Association is required.
Position Duties
Injury Prevention, Response, and Rehabilitation
- Provides preventive care, emergency response, and rehabilitative services for student-athletes during practices and athletic events.
- Attends practices, games, and tournaments as assigned.
- Conducts injury evaluations and assists with return-to-play protocols.
- Assists in evaluating, determining, and administering emergency first aid, acute care, and referrals for injured athletes, students, and staff.
- Administers emergency first aid treatment.
- Applies taping and bracing techniques to support commonly injured joints and muscles, as medically indicated, before, during, and after practices or games
- Maintains injury records and coordinates treatment plans in collaboration with coaches, physicians, and parents.
Instructional Support in the CTE Sports Medicine Program
- Supports the CTE Sports Medicine teacher with lab instruction and internships, including demonstration of clinical and athletic training skills.
- Assists students during simulated clinical or athletic training tasks in a field environment.
- Collaborates with the CTE teacher to ensure instructional support aligns with curriculum.
- Demonstrates athletic training procedures in instructional settings.
Coordination and Communication
- Coordinates with school staff and administration to ensure effective student supervision and learning experience.
- Works independently at assigned sites, following direction from Athletic Director and administrators.
- Maintains strong communication and collaboration with students, coaches, staff, and administrators.
- Collaborates with the teacher overseeing the Sports Medicine Pathway at the high school level.
Equipment and Facility Maintenance
- Maintains medical and instructional equipment, supplies, and facilities in clean, safe, and working order.
- Follows all applicable safety procedures and standards in both medical and instructional settings.
Travel Responsibilities
- Travels to district and out-of-district locations as needed to support student needs and perform job responsibilities; uses a personal or district-provided vehicle in accordance with district policy and may be eligible for mileage reimbursement.
Other Functions
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, Kinesiology, or a related field.
- Experience working with high school students in an athletic or instructional setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with Career Technical Education (CTE) or work-based learning environments is preferred.
Licenses and Certificates
- Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), issued by the Board of Certification (BOC).
- Current CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
- Requires a valid California driver’s license.

- Collaborate effectively with CTE teachers, athletic staff, and administrators.

- Maintain and manage medical and instructional supplies and equipment.
- Adapt to changing schedules and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Drive a vehicle to fulfill job responsibilities
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
- Regular interaction with students, staff, vendors, and community members.
- Physical activities include standing for extended periods, lifting and moving merchandise (up to 25 lbs.), and event set up.
- Environment may be fast paced during peak times, such as lunch periods, special sales events, and school functions.
