THE COMMISSION
The Community Police Commission (CPC) envisions communities and Seattle’s police aligned in shared goals of safety, respect, and accountability. We listen to, amplify, and build common ground among Seattle's communities affected by policing. We are a small but mighty team championing policing practices centered in justice and equity. The CPC staffs a board of volunteer Commissioners appointed by the Mayor, City Council, and the Commission.
THE JOB
We are recruiting a Deputy Director to manage our day-to-day operations and support the Executive Director’s focus on strategic visioning and planning. We are looking for applicants who are anti-racist and pro-equity and want to have a real and lasting impact on improving how BIPOC and other marginalized communities experience policing. The Communications, Community Engagement, and Policy Directors will report to you.
In this job, you will lead the work in the following areas:
- Managing and developing staff
- Developing policies and legislation to bring about positive change in the way the communities experience policing
- Creating operational structures and managing the budget to maximize the impact of a small team
- Using strategic communications to tell the CPC’s story
- Developing community engagement plans that meet the community where they are and learn what is working and what policies and practices need to change
Position Duties
To be successful in this role, you have demonstrated your:
- Commitment to race and social justice, equity, and supporting the power of communities to forge their own solutions
- Ability to build a cohesive and productive team, manage performance, and develop staff skills to align with team aspirations
- Experience guiding communications that help audiences understand a team’s mission, the work, and the impact the team is having, and hopes to expand and amplify
- Ability to support and advise on authentic engagement with BIPOC communities and use their concerns, ideas, and feedback to bring about change while keeping them continually informed
- Understanding of how policies and laws are created, and using qualitative and quantitative data to develop them
- Experience building structure, standard operating procedures, and systems that help teams be better organized and more efficient
- Collaboration and engagement skills with partners, organization leaders, and staff
- Managing budgets to meet priorities and opportunities

Minimum Qualifications
Successful applicants will have experience that reflects people, communication, and policy management that centers equity. This experience should be complemented by demonstrated ability in most of the following areas:
- Managing people, their performance, and development
- Broad written and oral communication skills, including representing their team or organization with a variety of audiences
- Cross-cultural community engagement
- Advocating for BIPOC communities
- Successfully having difficult conversations about race
- Law, legislation, and policy development
- Navigating political nuances and confidentiality concerns
- Managing operations and budgets
- Working in a dynamic, diverse, fast-paced environment

Other Qualifications
This position is classified as a Manager 3, Exempt. The salary range for this position is $59.75-$89.61/hour; however, the target salary range based on skills and experience is $81-$83/hour.
This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be based on agreement between the employee and management. You will be asked to attend meetings and events that occur on weekday evenings and weekends.
