The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill multiple vacancies for the classification of Utilities Assistant - Meter Services (Limited Term) in the Department of Utility Services . The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status.**

Under direct supervision, performs general duties in meter reading, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)/Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), customer response, and conservation awareness relating to water and wastewater in the Department of Utility Services; performs related duties as assigned.

Limited-Term Position Information:
Due to the implementation of a new Citywide initiative, the City of Henderson developed the Utilities Assistant classification to assist with job duties and tasks related to the project.

Candidates selected to fill these positions will be classified as full-time employees as defined in the Teamsters contract. However, the Utilities Assistant (Meter Services) positions are limited-term positions and are only approved through June 2028 at which time the Utilities Assistants will be removed from the staff complement. Individuals holding these positions at the end of the approved period will have rights as outlined in the “reduction in force” language in the Teamsters contract.

**NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:
  • Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.
  • Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
Incumbent may expect to work independently in the field at varying locations throughout the City of Henderson. Incumbent will be exposed to varying weather conditions and outdoor environments including excessive heat and cold and will be walking and working on slippery and uneven surfaces. Travel between locations will be necessary via City motor vehicle.  Air conditioning and heat may not be available via all methods of travel.

  • External candidates, probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range, if selected.

Position Duties

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent
  • Six (6) months of full-time work experience in a public water utility, including customer service, and/or Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)/Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related education, experience, and training may be considered
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate OSHA card as defined by the Nevada Revised Statue (NRS 618.950)
  • Employee will be expected to complete assigned training courses through the City of Henderson's learning management system
  • All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, or as required herein, must be obtained at incumbent’s expense
  • Employee must maintain certificates and licenses for the position in good standing as a condition of continued employment
