Project Overview:
This role is central to our digital experience team, responsible for building the next generation of interactive sports content for millions of users. As part of Gannett’s broader digital-first strategy, this team focuses on developing high-performance, accessible, and engaging web applications that bring real-time sports data to life. Leveraging modern technologies like React, Next.js, and Node.js, we deliver fast, scalable experiences that support both editorial storytelling and advertising goals. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a nationally recognized platform while collaborating with a team that values innovation, speed, and usability. You’ll help define how fans engage with sports content—from real-time scores and stats to highlights and interactive features.
Role Summary:
TrueTandem is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Full Stack Developer to join our Commercial practice. You’ll help build high-visibility digital experiences that power national and local sports coverage across our top media clients, serving millions of readers.
We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about delivering performant, accessible, and scalable web applications. This role requires hands-on development using React, Next.js, and Node.js, with opportunities to work on cloud-native architecture, real-time sports data, and engaging user experiences.
Core Responsibilities:
· Build and maintain full-stack web applications for sports data delivery using Next.js, React, and Node.js.
· Develop clean, maintainable code and ensure cross-browser/device compatibility and accessibility.
· Integrate with external APIs (e.g., sports feeds) and develop backend services to support application functionality.
· Collaborate with designers, product managers, and QA to ship high-quality features quickly.
· Implement performance enhancements and caching strategies to support high-traffic pages.
· Contribute to code reviews, pair programming, and agile ceremonies.
· Stay up to date with front-end and full-stack best practices, with a focus on the React/Next.js ecosystem.
Required Skills:
· 2+ years of experience in full-stack web development.
· Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
· Experience developing backend services using Node.js and Express, including building and integrating RESTful APIs.
· Experience with version control systems (GitHub or GitLab).
· Familiarity with testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Chai).
· Understanding of accessibility best practices and responsive design.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional agile teams.
Nice to Have
· Experience working with sports data, real-time data feeds, or live content applications.
· Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS.
· Knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, OAuth2, and CI/CD pipelines.
· Experience with content platforms like Shopify or CMS integrations.
· Contributions to open-source projects or developer communities.
