IHRC Inc. seeks a dedicated and experienced, senior level Health Communications/Web Communications Specialist to support our clients at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)/Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division (CORVD). CORVD’s mission is to provide the health of people by preventing illness, disability and death from respiratory viruses through public health science and practice in the United States and globally. This position is needed for accomplishing CORVD’s mission. 


  • Manage social media engagement, including maintenance of current channels, establishment of new channels as appropriate, and coordination of social medial postings across the agency - CDC Facebook, English and Spanish; X (e.g.., Twitter): @CDCgov, @CDCDirector, @CDCEspanol; CDC Pinterest; CDC Flickr; CDC YouTube; CDC LinkedIn.
  • Prepare to engage with newer platforms that CDC may adopt, including Threads, Mastodon, Bluesky.
  • Support CORVD by providing input on social medial strategy, approach, and content.
  • Post or amplify CORVD social media messages on OC social media channels.
  • Work with Center’s social media group with requests for content to post.
  • Attend relevant Office of Communication (OC), CORVD, and Center social media discussions/meetings/calls and provide expertise when needed. 
  • When needed, provide supervision and guidance to junior level staff. 
  • Work with CORVD and other appropriate Chief Information Officer (CIOs) or OC to coordinate health and risk communication content development.
  • Provide consultation services to manage reporting requirements, including developing communication slides for meetings.
  • Work with other subject matter experts (SME) and programs to create new messaging and adapt existing messages to be consistent with health and risk communication science, principles, and requirements, including plain language, timeliness, and audience appropriateness.
  • Translate complex health and risk communication information into messages for a variety of audiences.
  • Use health communication strategy and principles to create content such as web copy, fact sheets, social media messages, and response to CDC-INFO.
  • Work closely with CORVD leadership and communication team to devise and implement strategies for reaching specific audiences.
  • Provide technical assistance in health communication theory and science to CORVD when developing materials.
  • Write, edit, and collaborate with graphic artists, audio/visual producers, new media designers, and/or web developers to produce and disseminate a range of materials
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of rollout plans and communication packages to support major releases, new studies, and other announcements.

Requirements

  • MS with 10+ years’ experience
  • Strong proofreading skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge and experience with various communication theories and risk communication. 
  • Experience working in a public health setting.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with federal and/or State level government. 
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and MS SharePoint. 
  • Experience with 508 compliance requirements.
