JOB DESCRIPTION  

 

Summary: The Development Director assists the Area Development Director (ADD) in execution of fundraising strategy and the implementation of action plans developed with the national office; including taking the lead on some campaigns and designing new ones to reach fundraising targets that support the thirty-seven (37) UNCF member institutions. The Development Director serves as an ambassador for UNCF, by engaging donors and leveraging relationships to meet revenue goals. The Development Director submits solicitations and conducts other fundraising activities to maintain a high level of public awareness, regarding the importance of philanthropic donations, to support and further the mission of the organization. The primary focus of fundraising activities will be the Baltimore, MD area and will include support for the Washinton, DC Area Office events.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  

 

  • Assist the ADD indevelopingand implementingcomprehensive fundraising strategies to meet and exceed fundraising goals;a significant proportionof donations raised must be unrestricted funds.
  • Identifyand cultivate relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and grant-makingorganizations.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with existing donors, ensuringtimelyand personalized acknowledgements, updates, and impact reportsto sustain and enhance repeated and upgraded gifts.
  • Develop andmaintainstrong relationships with key stakeholders, including board members, volunteers, and community partners, to support fundraising efforts.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events, including galas, auctions, charity walks, and other campaigns, to generate funds and engage donorsprimarilyin theBaltimore, MDarea.
  • Develop andsubmitproposals and design and implement special fund-raising events.
  • Establish guidelines and implementation procedures forspecial events.
  • Conduct thorough research toidentifynew funding opportunities and stay updated on current trends and practices in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Maintain a donor database and track all fundraising activities, donor communications, and contributions.
  • Write fundraising correspondence, letters of acknowledgment and appeals andmaintaina regular schedule of in-person visits with foundations, donors, and board members.
  • Collaborate with thebranding,marketing,and communications team to create and distribute fundraising materials and annual reports.
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising activities, analyzing outcomes, and making recommendations for improvement to maximize effectiveness.
  • Assistinidentifying,recruiting,andtrainingvolunteers,campaign leaders,Advisory Board membersand other needed resources who are representatives of all segments of a given community.
  • Establish and manage relationswith volunteers,conductinginitial orientation, outlininggoalsandobjectivesfor each committee.
  • Train and monitor the progress of all volunteer activities, maintaining constant communication, written and oral, on a weekly basis leading to fundraising events.
  • Compile andmaintaina volunteer bank consisting of active and new volunteers.
  • Cultivate volunteers and stimulate their involvement by continuous contact throughout the year.
  • Manage and review monthly reports to include donors and prospects, officevisits, recaps of meetings,projections,and missing gifts.
  • Generate queries, reports,exports,and other collection data as needed.
  • Assistin managing theareaoffice to ensure compliance with organization policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

No supervisory duties. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  

 

A bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and at least 5-7 years of experience in fund-raising. 

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

 

  • Ability to conduct major fundraising activities, including capital campaigns and annual giving drives. 
  • Ability to think critically and communicate clearly.
  • Excellent organizational skills, outstanding human relations, and managerial aptitude.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional responsiveness and a capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally.
