WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
CCFR provides 24/7 emergency response for the City and Borough of Juneau. All permanent full-time positions work 24-hour shifts and live at the station during their shift. CCFR has two live-in stations, the Juneau station located in downtown Juneau, and the Glacier station located near the Juneau International Airport. In addition, we have Douglas, Auke Bay, and Lynn Canal Stations.

Typical duties of a Firefighter EMT I, II, or III include:
Education:
High School graduation or a valid GED certificate.
Other:
Not less than 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
A valid Alaska Driver's License at the time of appointment and for continued employment.
Certification(s):
Certification as a State of Alaska Firefighter I or an equivalent certification as determined by the Fire Chief.
Certification as a State of Alaska Emergency Medical Technician I or higher.
NOTE: Appointment to a Firefighter – EMT position will be made conditionally pending successful completion of all portions of the psychological assessment, Physical Agility Test, and medical evaluation.
Continued employment and advancement opportunities:
Continued employment requires completion of the on-the-job training program, meeting or exceeding performance standards, and the following conditions:
Firefighter- EMT I - (Range 726) $58,502.08 - $65,520.00 Annually (DOQ):
Within twelve (12) months of appointment, full-time employees must obtain and maintain certification as a State of Alaska EMT II.
Firefighter- EMT II - (Range 727) $61,443.20 - $68,752.32 Annually (DOQ):
Must have a valid EMT II certification upon appointment and for continued employment.
Firefighter- EMT III - (Range 728) $67,267.20 - $72,101.12 Annually (DOQ):
Must have a valid EMT III certification upon appointment and for continued employment.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This recruitment will be used to create an eligible list to fill current and future vacancies which may occur within the next twelve months, subject to an interview and re-evaluation of the candidate’s current job performance. At the discretion of the Fire Chief, the eligible list may be extended up to one year from the effective date. The City and Borough of Juneau may revise or change the examinations or examining procedure at any time during the period and require candidates to meet the revised examination procedures or pass the revised examinations to maintain eligibility for appointment.
ADDITIONAL TESTING
Successful candidates must pass Phase 1 of the selection process by meeting the minimum qualifications outlined below, passing an oral board, passing professional reference checks, and passing a criminal background check. Once this is accomplished, they will move to Phase 2 of the selection process, where they must pass a psychological evaluation, pass a physical “fit for duty” medical exam, and pass a physical agility test.
