The Store Designer is responsible for preparing preliminary and final store design layouts, including floor plans, fixture plans, and signage for internal review and release. This role involves close collaboration with various levels of Corporate Management and Franchise Store Partners. The designer will use specialized software to create design plans for all store builds and resets. The designer will also be tasked to initiate and complete smaller projects as required, with the direct support and supervision of the Director of Construction & Design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Real Estate Committee (REC) to plan and produce layouts for real estate feasibility approval.
- Develop demolition plans, finish plans, fixture plans, reflective ceiling plans, graphic plans, and electrical requirements related to fixture plans.
- Review landlord Tenant Criteria and local building codes to create informed store design layouts, storefront, and signage designs.
- Work closely with Franchise Partners and Corporate Management to develop and finalize signage renderings.
- Produce construction store drawings using AutoCAD, including architectural, merchandise fixture, electrical, reflective ceiling, finish, and plumbing plans, and provide these to the Architect for permit drawings. Gather all required documents and information.
- Manage external architects on drawing deliverables, completion dates, permitting, and construction documents.
- Create redesign layouts for existing stores as requested.
- Design store premises to maximize merchandisable space while maintaining code compliance and company design elements.
- Collaborate with the store setup team to determine fixture requirements and ensure fixtures are placed and sized correctly for product placement. Produce merchandise-populated plans based on redlines from the store setup team.
- Manage smaller adhoc projects as assigned, such as fixture prototype rollouts, storefront redesigns, etc.
- Provide drawings for fixture and millwork vendors.
- Travel to project sites as needed.
- Work closely with the construction manager during build phases and tender walk-throughs.
- Work closely with the project coordinators to provide adequate projected quantities for vendor use.
- Managing the design aspects of construction projects to ensure that the project is completed on time and within budget. Gather all required quantities for vendor orders and coordinate invoices with layouts.
- Coordinates design selection base on approved layouts.
- Coordinates with project coordinators to ensure materials are ordered in a timely fashion to assure their arrival prior to installation and track their progress.
- Distributes list to necessary parties.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in a design discipline from a recognized educational institution.
- Strong understanding of a retail store environment. Instore retail experience considered an asset
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of SketchUp or Photoshop is considered an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and content development tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Adobe Captivate, Illustrator) is desirable.
- Working knowledge of local building codes, AODA regulations, and FLS regulations is an asset.
- Knowledge of construction processes, project planning, budgeting, construction materials/specifications, contracts, and mechanical/electrical systems.
- PMP, LEEDs GA certifications considered an asset
