About the job

We are seeking a strategic Staff Data Operations Engineer to join our enterprise data team within IT, supporting critical functions including IT, InfoSec, Corporate Security, Legal, and Finance. In this role, you will lead the design and optimization of advanced data pipeline architectures using AWS, S3, Glue, and Snowflake, ensuring data scalability and robustness.

Positioned at the forefront of data innovation, you will collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and analysts, providing technical guidance to enhance our data capabilities. Your expertise will drive the integration of machine learning and analytics into workflows, promoting data-driven decision-making. Additionally, you will champion data governance and ensure compliance across processes while leveraging agile methodologies to improve data operations.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

  • Architect and implement scalable data pipelines that support complex data processing and analytics. Focus on developing robust ETL processes that streamline data flow and improve data quality across multiple platforms.
  • Design and deploy cloud-based solutions using AWS services such as S3, Glue, and Snowflake. Optimize the infrastructure for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from various structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Leverage big data technologies like Apache Spark and Kubernetes to enable large-scale data processing and analytics capabilities. Develop frameworks that enable seamless integration and operation of big data systems.
  • Implement and uphold data governance practices to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and privacy. Collaborate with security teams to develop strategies that protect data assets and comply with regulatory standards.
  • Partner with software developers, data scientists, and business analysts to understand and address data needs. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to junior engineers and team members. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, encouraging innovation and knowledge sharing.
  • Support the integration of machine learning models and advanced analytics into data workflows. Build tools and services that enable data teams to perform deep analysis and derive actionable insights.
  • Develop processes for managing the lifecycle of datasets, including data modeling, metadata management, and version control. Ensure efficient data availability and accessibility for analytical and operational use cases.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in data engineering.
  • 5+ years of professional experience building and managing data workflows, with a strong focus on utilizing cloud platforms like AWS. Proficient in tools such as S3, Glue, and Snowflake.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python, with demonstrated ability to develop solutions using other high-level programming languages such as Java, Scala, or Go.
  • Mastery of SQL programming with experience in relational databases and familiarity with NoSQL databases.
  • Experience architecting and enhancing scalable 'big data' pipelines and processes, with a focus on ETL best practices.
  • Familiarity with Apache Spark, Kubernetes, and containerization tools for managing large-scale data processing environments.

Desired:

  • Experience integrating machine learning models and AI capabilities into data processes, including the use of technologies like Kubeflow and Docker.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple initiatives and prioritize In-depth understanding and commitment to data governance principles, ensuring data quality, integrity, and compliance with privacy standards.
  • Ability to mentor and guide junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Experience and applied work in scaled agile frameworks and teams, contributing to the effective delivery and continuous improvement of data operations.

 

Location

This role will be remote, and based in Colombia

Travel
