Who You Are

You are a biologist or environmental compliance specialist with excellent technical writing skills, communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team atmosphere. You have 0-3 years of environmental compliance (on-site work and construction site experience is ideal), wildlife biology, and/or technical writing experience. You are familiar with environmental compliance, permit implementation, compliance reporting, QA/QC implementation, and able to develop and adhere to standard operating procedures. You enjoy working in a team atmosphere or leading teams and working collaboratively to deliver project assignments on time. You are solution-oriented and proactive in identifying issues and communicating them to the team. You hold a bachelor’s degree, major coursework in environmental, biological, or a related interdisciplinary field is preferred.

You can independently prepare and review written reports, maps and figures, and professional e-mail correspondence. You are skilled in investigating data from multiple sources, synthesizing data, and interpreting permit conditions and their application on project sites.

You are known for preparing documents that are clear, concise, well-written, and supported. You can present written information understandably and quickly to communicate ideas to a diverse group of readers. Likewise, you have experience adhering to detailed QA/QC protocols to ensure documents are adequately reviewed and accurate.

You have proficiency in, or ability to learn, software systems and applications including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and other software effectively. Experience navigating online applications like Trello, ArcGIS online, Fulcrum, and Survey 123 is helpful.

You work collaboratively with clients and interdisciplinary teams to deliver your projects on time and within budget. You are an effective team member and communicator who contributes constructively and cooperatively to solve project and team challenges.

Preference is given to candidates in the Pacific Standard Time zone; however, qualified candidates nationwide will also be considered.  You are comfortable working in a remote environment, or in a hybrid fashion from one of our offices and can occasionally travel as needed. You also hold a valid driver’s license.

What You Will Do for ESA

As a Compliance Specialist, you will convert data from compliance monitors/biologists into written daily compliance reports in support of a large, on-going construction project in California. Other tasks will include researching and gaining mastery in comprehension of project permit requirements, reviewing team communications, and conducting support activities for our Project Managers.

You will demonstrate a clear understanding of environmental compliance and planning documents in accordance with applicable guidelines and requirements, while maintaining effective lines of communication with the project management team, compliance team, on-site staff, and client team to provide deliverables on schedule. You are a critical thinker who addresses current issues and anticipates potential future compliance issues. You can participate in discussions from a technical and detailed perspective, as well as understanding overall team or client objectives/goals.

You will serve as a technical reviewer and writer for compliance documents, including daily compliance reports, compliance summaries, e-mail correspondences, and other project written deliverables. During this work, you will synthesize data from various sources, including on-site data collected by biologists/compliance staff, historical project information, permit requirements and environmental commitments, ArcGIS or mapping data, Fulcrum or other database applications, and other communications.

You will consistently demonstrate your solid writing skills and attentive listening skills and will produce written products that are clear, concise, and well-supported. You also demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills and are able to collaborate with a diverse group of team members, clients, and project partners.
