As a passionate group of engineers, we are looking for someone who is similarly motivated to build great systems and data that sit at the core of our business. An ideal candidate will be excited to contribute across the software stack. This is a great opportunity to get exposure to multiple systems and move the business forward in novel ways as you’ll be working on making the lives of our team members and customers easier. The ideal candidate doesn’t just define themselves as an engineer, but as a product owner and operates with high accountability. You are an experienced operator who’s strong on execution, and proactive about identifying problems and arming the team with potential solutions.You Will Contribute ByAs a Staff Engineer at Hover, you’ll work across the stack—primarily in Ruby on Rails, React, and GraphQL—building robust, scalable solutions that improve the user experience for our customers. You’ll take a lead role in the product development process, partnering closely with Product, Design, Analytics, and other stakeholders to bring new products to market and refine existing ones. Your contributions will include building polished, high-touch UI, designing for scale, and enhancing our 3D modeling integrations, data processing pipelines, and interactive property models. A key part of your role will be to leave the code you come in contact with in a better state than you found it, whether through refactoring or optimization. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you’ll collaborate with other engineers to architect reliable systems and ensure high-quality code delivery through unit and end-to-end testing, ultimately making a measurable difference in the lives of those who rely on our tools.Your Background Includes
- 10+ years of experience in full-stack development, with strong expertise in backend technologies like Ruby on Rails, Java, C#, and frontend frameworks such as React, or Angular
- Experience with building RESTful architectures and/or GraphQL APIs, designing efficient, scalable, and secure interfaces for both internal and external use
- Proficiency in cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS and Google Cloud) and experience with building scalable applications that support complex workflows
- Product growth and lifecycle management: Experience building and growing products from initial launch through maturity, with a focus on improving, scaling, and evolving the product to better serve users and meet business objectives
- Technical leadership experience: Proven ability to take features from initial concept through planning, development, testing, and final delivery, ensuring alignment with product goals and user needs
- Team leadership experience, including guiding a group of engineers to challenge the status quo and deliver innovative solutions to sometimes poorly understood problems
- Engineering-driven mindset: Experience working in an engineering-driven organization where engineers share ownership of wins and losses alongside product. You take pride in driving impact, understand business goals, and are as accountable for outcomes as the product team
- Cross-functional collaboration: Experience working closely with stakeholders from Product, Design, Analytics, and Legal to build and refine products that meet business and regulatory requirements.
- Ownership mentality: Demonstrated commitment to taking full responsibility for features from design to deployment. You proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain the quality of your work in production, ensuring it continues to meet user needs over time
- Wearing multiple hats: Experience in varied roles, with a willingness to take on different responsibilities; you may have even founded a company or two in your time.
- Problem-solving mindset: Ability to analyze challenges faced by the industry and develop thoughtful, innovative solutions
