Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida and Tennessee. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. What will you do as a Professional Mentor?
- As a Professional Mentor in the Friends of the Children-Charlotte (FOTC) department, you will teach youth important life skills such as avoiding risky behavior, attaining skills for safety and independence, regulating school attendance, and more, according to our National program model.
- A typical day as a Professional Mentor will include providing long-term mentorship to 8-12 youth in the school, home, and community setting for 16 hours/month; building relationships with caregivers and partners according to our 2 generational approach to provide resources and referrals for the whole family; self-managing and ensuring documentation of goal-focused outings, hours served, contacts with families, teachers, youth, and others.
- As a Professional Mentor, your schedule will be non-traditional, but typically around 11 am-7 pm, with some Saturdays and evenings. Mentors serve their youth in person in the community with a radius of 30 miles in Charlotte and surrounding.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelors degree and minimum 1 year experience working with children -OR- Associates degree and minimum 3 years’ experience working with children required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite application software, excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent joining, and relational skills.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and meet any credentialing, licensing and privileging standards as it pertains to the department you are in.
- All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, and an extensive background check is required.
