Help shape the future of maritime design! Elliott Bay Design Group (EBDG) is seeking a talented and driven Naval Architect to become part of our dynamic team of maritime professionals. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative vessel designs and cutting-edge marine engineering solutions. The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Naval Architecture or Engineering and play a key role in guiding our design efforts and supporting a diverse client base across the United States.
Responsibilities:
- Drive the future of sustainable maritime design by leading the integration of low and zero-emission technologies across a wide variety of vessel types.
- Shape vessel functionality and safety by developing innovative general arrangements, structural fire protection and egress plans. Perform advanced hydrostatic, scantling, hull resistance, and seakeeping analyses.
- Get hands-on in the field by conducting onboard inspections, testing and troubleshooting, including stability tests and deadweight surveys, ensuring practical alignment with design intent.
- Champion regulatory excellence by ensuring full compliance with USCG regulations, SOLAS, MARPOL and applicable class society standards throughout all design and engineering phases.
- Author critical technical documents such as contract specifications, procurement specifications and testing/trial plans that support both new vessel construction and complex retrofits or modifications.
- Bachelor of Science degree from ABET accredited curriculum
- Professional Engineer's License (PE)
- Maintain membership in SNAME, ASME, ASCE, or IEE
Specific Skills and Abilities
- Experience in structural analysis, hydrodynamics and CFD with minimal oversight.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with solid mathematical reasoning.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to interpret data and develop design solutions.
- Proficient in technical research, reporting and clear written communication.
- Effective team player who can also work independently.
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to present technical ideas clearly.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 8-10 years of engineering experience with a licensed firm, supported by relevant engineering degree.
- Must have strong knowledge of marine construction, ship repair, safety standards and regulatory frameworks, with proven capability in shipyard and marine operations.
Physical and Mental Demands
Work is primarily performed in a remote office environment; however, the role requires flexibility to travel by car, plane, and vessel. Must be able to perform essential functions of vessel inspections, which may include climbing ladders, entering confined spaces, and conducting physical tasks in varied environment conditions. Salary Range
$53 - $72 per hour depending on experience.
