Purpose

The Director of Sorority and Fraternity Life provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for a robust Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL) community, encompassing over 60 chapters and five student-governed councils, representing roughly 15% of UT Austin’s undergraduate population. This position champions a sorority and fraternity experience grounded in student development, shared values, accountability, and risk reduction. Through comprehensive oversight, the Director fosters a safe and enriching environment for all SFL members. The role actively engages students, alumni, inter/national partners, and university stakeholders to enhance leadership to promote community engagement, and ensure the long-term success and relevance of sorority and fraternity life on campus.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Community Development and Growth

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL), ensuring alignment with institutional values while fostering innovation, accountability, and student success. Lead initiatives related to recruitment, risk management, leadership development, organizational discipline, and community engagement. Oversee policy review, program evaluation, unit promotion, and the strategic expansion and sustainability of new and returning chapters, advancing the long-term growth and vibrancy of the sorority and fraternity community

Supervision, Team Management & Administrative Support

  • Oversee recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of professional, paraprofessional, and student staff, including direct supervision of 2 full time staff and project-based supervision with other full time members of the team. Promote ongoing staff professional development and ensure team roles and efforts align with departmental and divisional goals.  
  • Oversee operational functions including budget planning, email and contact management, annual registration, rosters, grade reports, and regular reporting to stakeholders.

Risk Reduction & Policy Compliance

  • Provide vision and leadership for recruitment, risk prevention and compliance efforts within Sorority and Fraternity Life, including oversight of, hazing prevention, risk education initiatives, policy adherence, and contributions to the Successful Student Organization Program (SSOP).

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Cultivate strong relationships and serve as a liaison with campus partners, alumni, national organizations, and community stakeholders to enhance chapter support and ensure coordinated outreach and advocacy. Communicate and promote the trends, initiatives, and interests for sorority and fraternity organizations locally and more broadly.

Assessment, Data, and Communication

  • Lead assessment and evaluation efforts for SFL programs, including risk management, recruitment, awards, and coaching impacts to inform continuous improvement and demonstrate strength and growth of the community.

Committee and Campus Involvement

  • Assist in special assignments and committees on behalf of Sorority and Fraternity Life, the Office of the Dean of Students, Division of Student Affairs, or other campus partners as requested. Other related functions as assigned.

  

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in student affairs administration or related field and 5-7 years of experience advising, developing, administering, and implementing programs for the sorority and fraternity community. Demonstrated leadership in risk management, student advising, and strategic program development. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, administration, and external stakeholders. Membership in a nationally affiliated Greek letter organization. Professional demeanor. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills including presentations, written correspondence, and reports. Attention to detail. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.  

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree and 7+ years of professional experience working with student groups to provide advising, program planning, interpretation of institutional policies, risk management and leadership development opportunities. Experience advising multiple governing councils with event planning, leadership development, and risk management concepts like Title IX, Clery reporting and hazing prevention. Strong attention to detail and successfully managing concurrent tasks. Independent decision making and problem-solving ability. Knowledge of student development theory and experience with student affairs assessment or program evaluation. Demonstrated strategic and innovative approaches to problem solving. Experience supervising professional and para-professional staff. Experience building partnerships and collaborating across departments in a post-secondary institution. 

Salary Range

$95,000+depending on qualifications

Working Conditions 

  • Work in a busy, high student traffic environment with frequent interruptions.  

  • Must be able to maintain punctual and regular attendance. 

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. 

  • Working around and with standard office equipment. 

  • The ability to flex schedule or accrue compensatory time to accommodate occasional evening or weekend work will be required.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
