Data Scientist / Engineer

Have you always been top of your job or class? Do you always pick things up faster than everyone else? Is your biggest fear that your job will not stretch you and will get monotonous? Is your ideal job description: “do whatever it takes to win?” Is your approach to teamwork: “win together or die together”?

If your answer to these questions is: “of course, isn’t everyone like that?” Then the answer is “no, they are not, but we are, and we may have the perfect job for you!”

Our team is a small R&D team serving a large, extremely successful, socially responsible, big data business. Generally, the business is a well-oiled machine but sometimes they need a new part or a bit more oil; that’s when we get called in. We really will do whatever it takes but generally our solutions focus upon domain specific languages and automated code generation. We are very high functioning and considered an elite group.

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist / Engineer to drive the development of methodologies and tools to assess data quality. This role will focus on answering the critical question: "What is good data?" The ideal candidate will work closely with various teams to upgrade the data engine, enabling robust measurement and quantification of data quality across all data columns and types.

Many people on the team have education up to doctorate level but that is not a requirement. Please re-read the opening paragraph, it is not a catch phrase or a mission statement. It actually IS who we are. If this resonates with you this job needs serious consideration; if it does not – you will hate it. We consider ourselves to be “One Team” and we live by that motto.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine techniques for salt (entity linking) profile upgrades, classification statistics, data patterns, and data sketches to optimize data performance.
  • Implement methodologies to measure similarity between columns and quantify the "goodness" of data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to upgrade the data engine, ensuring comprehensive evaluation and tracking of data quality.
  • Design and implement scalable solutions for data profiling, classification, and pattern recognition.
  • Research and apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to improve data assessment metrics.
  • Ensure that data quality solutions integrate seamlessly with existing data pipelines and architectures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in data science, data engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Java.
  • Strong understanding of statistical methods, machine learning techniques, and data profiling approaches.
  • Experience with measuring data similarity, data sketching, and classification techniques.
  • Familiarity with big data architectures and cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in collaborative environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in data quality assessment and anomaly detection.
  • Knowledge of data governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Exposure to database indexing, performance tuning, and optimization techniques.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse technical and non-technical teams.
