The Early Development Oncology (EDO) Team is responsible for identification and validation

of candidate biomarkers used for demonstration of pharmacodynamic effects and mechanism-of-action, as well as for response prediction and patient selection / stratification. EDO will make use of available technologies such as flow cytometry, RNA seq, genomics, Immunohistochemistry, etc, applied to clinical specimens from exploratory early stage trials. The EDO Team supports the whole oncology portfolio and closely interacts with Discovery and Early Clinical Development.

Job mission

Histopathology activities required by EDO are performed by external Contract Research Organizations (CROs). The scientists (m/f/d) within the Clinical Histopathology team are highly technical experts that coordinate interactions between internal biomarker experts and the external vendors, with an emphasis on histopathology outsourcing requests.

Histopathology biomarker projects may include outsourcing an IHC assay establishment for use in early clinical trials, outsourcing a target assessment or prevalence request for a new candidate biomarker, coordinate external acquisition of pathology data sets (images and/or blocks) in support of reverse translation digital pathology request, among others.

  • Discuss and document the scientific scope, requirements and project deliverables
  • Work with external partners to define and manage timelines and resources
  • Oversee the execution of the project to meet technical and quality expectations
  • Ensure relevant biomarker data is made available within the approved timelines
  • Support the integration and scientific interpretation of the external data received

Your profile

You thrive in and are dedicated to establishing a culture of mutual support, cross-training, continuous learning and self-organization to meet project and functional goals. Furthermore, you know how to prioritize, how to create clarity and focus. Besides, you have the following education and experience: 

  • You hold a PhD in Biological Sciences with at least 3-5 years of work experience in the pharmaceutical or diagnostic industry, alternatively you have a Scientific Master Degree with respectively 8-10 years work experience in histopathology laboratories
  • Hands-on experience in histopathology and tissue analysis techniques is highly preferred
  • You have experience in understating histopathology readouts and digital image formats and metadata
  • You are experienced in vendor management as well as in contract management
  • You are a good communicator and have strong persuasion and influencing capabilities to drive project needs and lead others in a matrix environment. This implies excellent English language skills.
