Job Details:
The School of Engineering is searching for an Engineering Lab Coordinator for the Macon, Georgia campus.
Responsibilities:
This position requires the ability to maintain devices and equipment in various engineering laboratories. It also requires ability to consult with faculty for the purpose of organizing laboratories for the support of teaching and research activities. This person will also assist students with design projects and will need to continue to learn to use new hardware, software, chips, devices, additive manufacturing equipment and programs to keep up with the needs of a changing curriculum. Person will also use their skills to help faculty and students with research projects.
Additional responsibilities include:
Maintain additive manufacturing equipment, electronic equipment and devices in engineering laboratories.
Maintain supplies and component inventory in various engineering laboratories.
Organize laboratories for teaching and research activities, especially when changes are being made.
Assist students and faculty with 3D printing and electrical and electronic design projects.
Install, test, and use new chips, devices, programs, and systems in engineering laboratories.
Work with faculty to establish new capabilities in laboratories or to upgrade or reinstate existing capabilities.
Contribute (plan, coordinate, 3D modeling, rapid manufacturing, electronics, etc.) to faculty and student research agenda.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in Engineering is required. Candidates with a master's degree in Engineering are preferred. Additionally, candidates should have one year of experience in an additive manufacturing and electronics laboratory, which should include experience ordering parts/materials, working with lab instruction and safety, and working with students from a variety of disciplines. Experience gained while earning an engineering degree will be considered.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to understand, evaluate, use, and maintain additive manufacturing and associated equipment, electronic test equipment, both analog and digital, in order to use and repair equipment available in engineering laboratories
Has the people skills needed to work with students effectively as they pursue their design projects
Has the ability to keep records and organize equipment and supply inventories to maintain and operate laboratories
Has the ability to work with faculty as they attempt to develop new experiments or capabilities in the laboratories in order to regularly update labs in an environment of rapidly changing technology
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Broad knowledge of electronics, instrumentation, and computer-based systems.
Broad understanding of additive manufacturing.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
