The Opportunity
As Chapter Lead Environment - Group Safety, Security, Health & Environment (GSHE), your primary responsibility is to provide strong subject matter and people leadership on global environmental compliance and the execution of the environmental sustainability ambitions and goals. You will lead a team of global environmental subject matter experts and be a member of the Group SHE Enabling Team (GSHE ET), reporting directly to the Chief SHE Officer. You will be instrumental in defining the global SHE strategy for the entire company, with a strong focus on environmental compliance and sustainability.
As leader of the GSHE Environment Chapter, you will guide and develop the future environmental talent within the organisation, as well as establishing strong networks globally, operating within a matrix model.
As a highly-credible subject matter expert, as well as networked leader, you will conduct briefings up to executive committee and board level regarding environmental compliance and sustainability.
In collaboration with the Chief SHE Officer and the GSHE ET, the goal is to build robust talent networks and succession plans to support continuous development and growth. Leadership in Group SHE will be prioritized, ensuring excellence in delivery and maintaining a long-term strategic vision. Collaborating with Corporate Sustainability and divisional sustainability teams, the aim is to set the enterprise-level direction for SHE and environmental sustainability at Roche. Organizational goals, strategies, and cross-functional initiatives will be designed to meet ambitious sustainability and compliance targets, while fostering strong collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
You will be recognized as a key thought partner to the Chief SHE Officer, all GSHE ET members and the Chief Sustainability Officer, contributing insights for overall company success.
Main responsibilities
Operate as a senior Roche leader, able to influence and develop highly effective relationships across the entire global organisation.
Provide strategic leadership including setting the vision and strategy, planning, budgeting, governance and long-term delivery of the global SHE ambition.
Ensure Environment chapter team members continuously develop technical and non-technical capabilities to drive the delivery of core programs.
Find, attract, develop / coach and retain talent commensurate with evolving external, business, stakeholder and function needs
Ensure continuous innovation to deliver leading edge, fit for purpose, continually evolving solutions to the organization
Leverage digital, insights and technology to deliver innovative and integrated solutions
Be responsible for all core line management tasks, including recruitment, performance management, career development & growth and remuneration for the chapter, in collaboration with the Group SHE ET.
Establish and drive the global SHE capability strategy to meet the needs of all (internal & external) stakeholders
Coordinate, assess and lead all SHE-relevant factors and risks in mergers, acquisitions and divestment projects to the Roche Group
Who you are
You have 10+ years of experience in a senior VACC leadership position in an environmental compliance / sustainability role in a large multi-national corporation.
You are an exceptional leader with a strong passion for people, including their ongoing growth, development and success.
You are a recognised environmental compliance / sustainability expert with a strong global network and proven delivery in large multi-national companies. Knowledge in contaminated sites management / remediation is an asset
You have held roles that require networked leadership capabilities in a matrix environment.
You are an effective communicator, inspiring and motivating others, with the ability to influence through active listening and concise messaging. You are empathetic while giving clear direction across different levels of the organisation. You are courageous to speak up and express your own ideas.
You have a growth mindset (incl. taking risks and experimenting, seeking new learning opportunities, asking for and giving feedback)
You have strong overall communication skills in English, ideally also in German
