Recovery Peer: Duties
The Recovery Peer will provide the following services for persons who use opioids and/or stimulants:
- Community navigation and advocacy to increase access to physical health care, social services and other support systems, including training on using public transportation and accompaniment on initial visits to provide emotional support;
- Wellness and recovery planning;
- Peer mentoring, role modelling and assistance in developing coping skills;
- Identifying and addressing social determinants of health needs (e.g. employment, housing application, food services, etc.), including help in accessing public benefits;
- Education on and support with accessing telehealth services;
- Education on pathways to recovery and how to access services/supports; and/or
- Assistance with re-entry from criminal justice system, including jails, prisons, problem-solving courts and other justice system entities.
Applicant Requirements:
- Applicants can be a fully certified or provisional Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or be highly motivated to train as a CRPA (“trainees”). Trainees will be expected to provide supportive services as described above under supervision while they are in training and are eligible to have their certification expenses paid by a grant.
- Individuals will be trained in and utilize evidence-based practices in providing peer-oriented services that support treatment and recovery.
- Interested applicants must have a high school diploma, ability to work a flexible schedule and be able to travel throughout Bronx, Manhattan and Queens.
- Candidates should have experience with and/or desire to work with a culturally diverse population in an addiction service setting.
- Salary between $49,920-$52,000 (plus benefits) based on qualifications for the position.
