The Building Inspector is responsible for inspecting buildings and structures during construction or renovation to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local building codes, county ordinances, and other applicable laws and regulations. The Building Inspector works independently under the general supervision of the Chief Building Inspector and plays a critical role in enforcing building codes to ensure the safety and integrity of the built environment.

Candidates should possess a solid foundational background that demonstrates their ability to engage with the responsibilities of the role effectively.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Building Inspector must possess good vision and hearing with or without correction. This role demands constant physical ability and stamina to walk through building sites, bending, kneeling, standing and climb ladders and stairs. The position also requires the ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently and lift up to 40 lbs. to a height of 7 feet. Working as a Building Inspector may involve working in physically challenging environments or conditions.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS AND WORK HAZARDS: The work environment primarily consists of an outdoor environment, and the inspector may be exposed to all weather conditions, including extreme heat, rain, cold and even unconditioned spaces. Work sites can include construction zones, which pose potential hazards such as falling objects, uneven surfaces, exposed wiring, and the risk of falls from buildings during inspections. The inspector may also encounter natural hazards like insect bites, animal encounters, and other environmental factors. Daily tasks may include ladders, scaffolding or other elevated surfaces. Additionally, this role may involve exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and mechanical equipment. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be used in compliance with safety guidelines.
