Description

Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer (CRO), the Development Officer will support fundraising efforts by working closely with the Development Team. This role involves qualifying, cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting individual prospects capable of giving over $25,000. Responsibilities include managing all major gift fundraising activities, arranging visits with potential donors, and developing funding proposals. The Development Officer will expand the donor base, build new relationships, maintain a portfolio of 100-125 major gift prospects, and solicit multi-year pledges. They are expected to schedule 150-175 personal visits annually and coordinate all fundraising communication materials.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Create and Support: Work closely with the CRO to create and implement a development plan for the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation. Work with the CRO to establish performance goals in assigned areas, monitor progress against them and devise strategies to ensure success in meeting them.
  • Cultivate and Solicit: Leverage best practices in prospect research to identify new prospects and close major and planned gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and friends to reach predetermined goal while maintaining and growing existing relationships to benefit TRMF.
  • Stewardship and Collaboration: Identify and implement strategies for keeping our current supporters engaged and apprised of the impact of TRMF programs, collaborating with the Development Team for data as needed.
  • Operations: Maintain meticulous donor records, and in coordination with our wider Development and Finance team, ensure we carefully track, acknowledge, and report contacts in timely fashion.
  • Traveling regionally and nationally, evening, weekend activities, appropriate events, and programs.
  •  Conduct is professional, courteous, and respectful, consistent with the values of the Foundation, to put the Foundation in the best position to enjoy the highest levels of philanthropy and public support.
  • Support other development functions as needs emerge.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Experience 

  •  Bachelor's degree in marketing, Finance, or similar field preferred
  • Five years of experience in fundraising for a nonprofit organization highly preferred
  • A record of accomplishment of building strong networks and relationship that lead to direct philanthropic support and ability/comfort to make mid-range gift asks
  • A deep passion for understanding of our mission
  • Demonstrated experience in donor prospects research 
  • Demonstrate experience in database management

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work for extended periods at computer workstations, including keyboard and visual display terminal. Finger, hand, and wrist dexterity. Ability to see, read, and comprehend written materials.
  • Ability to travel independently via car and air.
  • Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to work long hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required.
