Assists with various programs and events including youth educational programming, academic success, physical activities, and extracurricular programming. Supervises children enrolled in the After- School program to ensure their safety and security. Must be able to work with children on a daily a basis. Must be able to prepare engaging lesson plans applicable to state standards and implementing curriculum. Assists teachers in the care, supervision, and education of children. Review learning materials with students and help prepare for lessons.
- Ensures the safety and security of all children enrolled in recreation center programs.
- Create a safe learning environment.
- Serves as a positive role model and mentor for children enrolled in recreation center
programs.
- Communicates with parents in a positive manner.
- Takes and records attendance.
- Maintains facilities in a clean and safe state; performs janitorial services as required
including mopping, sweeping, restroom cleaning / sanitizing, and removing trash.
- Arranges chairs, tables, and / or equipment in designated areas for scheduled activities.
- Receives, stores, inspects, organizes, and issues equipment and supplies.
- Takes children from classrooms to activities and the parent pick-up area in a calm and
orderly manner.
- Participates in sports activities with children including basketball, football, volleyball,
and soccer.
- Assists children in the Afterschool program with Tutoring and homework.
- Assists with the supervision of campers during camp program activities.
- Provides first aid assistance to program participants in cases of minor injuries; reports
accidents and incidents to the appropriate parties as soon as possible after the
occurrence.
- Performs other duties as required or as assigned.
Must be a minimum age of 18 years old and have obtained a high school diploma or GED; supplemented by two or more years’ experience working with children; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience. Must have or be able to obtain First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification. May be required to have and maintain a valid Florida state driver’s license. May be required to have or obtain additional formal industry certification(s) based on area of assignment.
Must be able to work Monday through Friday; 1:00PM - 6:00PM.
Must be flexible for Town observed holidays and Miami-Dade County Public School scheduled development days and Teacher's Planning Days.
Must be able to work during required extended hours as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Community recreation center experience
- Daycare and/or Aftercare experience
- Teaching Certification as issued by the Florida Department of Education
- DCF Staff or Director Credentials
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to
perform each of the established essential functions in order to perform this job successfully.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the principles, objectives, facilities, and equipment needed to conduct
specific recreational, educational, and sports activities
- Skill in working independently and following through with assignments with minimal
direction
- Skill in the use of or ability to learn to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook,
Excel, and PowerPoint) and applicable department / organizational software
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to relate academic competence in children
- Ability to deal effectively with the public
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with
those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to organize work for timely completion
- Ability to regularly attend work and arrive punctually for designated work schedule
- Ability to work a flexible schedule; days, nights, and weekends regularly
- Ability to pass the required background check and drug screening
