About the Opportunity

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. The School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs seeks to fill a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor. The appointment will be on Northeastern’s Arlington, VA campus to begin in January 2026. This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year.  

 

The programmatic focus is public policy and public administration with an emphasis on policy analysis and experiential learning methods for public affairs programs. 

 

Teaching: 

This position will support the teaching needs for a portfolio of public affairs programs at Northeastern University in Arlington, including the Master of Public Policy, the Master of Public Administration, the Master of Science in Urban Informatics, and the Master of Applied Quantitative Methods and Social Analysis degree programs. The anticipated course load is three courses in each of the Fall and Spring semesters. Teaching across multiple modalities, including in-person on the Arlington campus, online, and livecast, will be expected. 

 

The teaching load may include courses in areas such as public sector leadership and management, economic analysis for policy and planning, Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy and governance, statistical analysis and quantitative methods, research methods in the social sciences, program evaluation techniques, and community-based Capstone projects that integrate knowledge from across the program's coursework. 

 

Service: 

The successful candidate will also play a key role in supporting the development of the Master of Public Administration and Master of Public Policy programs at the Arlington campus, including contributing to the program's vision, ensuring coordination across courses, and providing dedicated support for student success and professional development. 

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Public Policy, Public Administration or related fields in hand by the employment start date is required.

Pay Range:

Assistant Teaching Professor: $71,000.00 - $87,000.00

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
