JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: INTERIM ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL - PEIRCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

JOB GOALS: The principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, developing and supporting school-based student programming and strong family partnerships in support of teaching, learning, and student achievement.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university with concentration in Administration, Supervision and/or Curriculum.
2. Licensure as an Elementary School Principal by the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
3. At least five years of successful elementary school teaching or leadership experience with evidence of strong leadership ability.
4. Previous administrative experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

1. Knowledge of current practices in elementary curriculum and pedagogy, including implementation and evaluation of curriculum.

1. Demonstrated professional knowledge of anti-racist and culturally responsive teaching and leadership practices.  
2. Demonstrated ability with developmentally appropriate programs, interdisciplinary curriculum, and integrated Special Education programs.
3. Excellent public relations skills and tangible evidence of ability to proactively respond to the needs of students, parents, colleagues, and the central administration.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Serve as the instructional leader of the building in collaboration with coaches, school leadership teams, and district leaders. 
2. Supervise the operation of an elementary school to ensure compliance with existing School Committee policies, town by-laws, and federal and state education statute and regulations.  
3. Work cooperatively with and follow the guidelines of the Deputy and Assistant Superintendents in implementing programs, delivering related services, and managing budgets.
4. Communicate routinely and develop two-way relationships with families, in alignment with district-wide expectations for school-based communication and programming.
5. Complete the formal evaluation process of staff under his/her supervision and evaluate other staff as directed by the Superintendent.
6. Hire school staff with the approval of the Superintendent.
7. Work with support staff and community agencies in the development of programs for children with special needs.
8. Serve as co-chair of the School Council and activate, implement and monitor all school council activities relative to goals, student performance standards, the school improvement plan and the professional development plan.
9. Work with the Administrative Cabinet in ongoing policy implementation and decision making for programs, professional development, and operations of the school.
10. Coordinate parent and community involvement in school activities, consistent with system-wide goals.
11. Evaluate the effectiveness of school programs and submit reports to the Superintendent as needed.
12. Work with joint occupants in the building to enable access to extracurricular programing or before-/after-school care for students.
13. Perform all additional related duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Interim Position through June 30, 2026

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools 

SUPERVISES: Classroom teachers, special subject teachers and support staff in the building.
