Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting an E-Filing Specialist in our Los Angeles office. This position is responsible for electronic filing activities in California State and Federal Courts, including assembling and accomplishing the filing, ensuring all filings comply with California state, federal and local court rules; service and retrieval of court documents; preparation and service of necessary courtesy copies to the court; maintaining and updating all related databases; coordinating with case teams to process incoming court documents; and communicating with attorneys and court personnel when requested by the assigning attorney regarding proper filing procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Familiarity with California court rules and rules for electronically filing documents in state and federal courts using the court-mandated EFSP/ECF system and any state and local court filing systems.
  2. Subject matter expertise on the requirements to e-File documents in California state, federal district and appellate courts and with arbitration services.
  3. Coordinate with Firm attorneys and their support staff to gather and properly assemble necessary documents for California filings.
  4. Properly accomplish e-filings in California state and federal courts and with arbitration services.
  5. Serve necessary documents on opposing counsel and ensure timely delivery of courtesy copies to assigned judges where required by applicable rules or standing orders of the court.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Education:  High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. Additional legal or administrative training a plus.
    2. Experience:  A minimum of 5 years job related experience in California eFiling support, experience with California state and federal court systems, including electronic filing systems (i.e. Odyssey eFileCA, File&ServeXpress, PACER NextGen) required; prior experience working in a law firm, professional services, or other client relationship-based organization preferred.
    3. Other Qualifications: Advanced knowledge and application of Federal, State, and Local Rules. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and of relevant computer-research databases required. Must have strong research skills, highly developed legal analytical abilities and significant knowledge of one or more of the firm’s legal practice areas. Must present a positive, professional image and show initiative to suggest or implement creative measures to benefit the firm. Supportive of change, promotes firm policies, focuses on needs of the firm. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Must have strong attention to detail and work efficiently and effectively under deadline pressure. Visual acuity needed for transcription, extensive reading and moderate or advanced keyboard usage. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through both written and oral communications. Ability to lift, carry, reach, stoop or bend, at times repetitively, for tasks involving filing or movement of files/supplies weighing up to 5-10 pounds. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory. Ability to maintain flexibility regarding work assignments to work overtime on short notice required. Ability to work in a cooperative manner as a member of a team. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must possess the abilities or aptitudes to proficiently perform each of the responsibilities and accountabilities described above, with or without reasonable accommodation. 

    The expected salary range for a Los Angeles based employees is $79,800.00 to $121,600.00, though salaries for employees based outside of Los Angeles may differ. Beyond an employment candidate’s physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.
