Reports to: Metals Sales Manager
Position Summary: Develop cost estimates to procure new projects for PDM and manage projects internally and externally as needed.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Carefully perform take-offs and prepare cost estimates for a variety of steel projects.
- Be responsible for obtaining and executing contracts or purchase orders.
- Prepare a clear and complete proposal for contractors on all projects where the quoted price will be the basis for a contract.
- Prepare preliminary budget estimates as requested by customers and be clear and specific on what is being estimated at the time costs are being given to the customer.
- Follow-up on projects quoted to determine whether or when the project is to be produced by PDM. Attempt to obtain bids results of competitors whenever possible.
- Obtain all necessary information about a project before we start the steel detailing process.
- Maintain PDM estimating programs.
- Assist project management with change order pricing and effectively manage change orders relating to finances and schedules.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings to inform team members of project specific scope, schedule, and costs.
- Understand each individual project estimate, scope of work and adhere to financial budgets.
- Produce holistic schedule/timelines for projects and manage these schedules. Schedule is inclusive of design, detailing/engineering, submittal process, production, deliveries, and closeout.
- Read legal contracts and scope of work requirements and adjust to support PDM’s interests.
- Prepare sub-contracts and manage sub-contractors.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Education: Enrollment in accredited Bachelors Degree program or higher, and coursework in the area(s) related to the internship opportunity.
Knowledge and Skills: The ability to read and understand blueprints and construction documents. Computer competency in Word, Excel and other basic programs. Bluebeam experience is a plus, but not required.
