About the Department
CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORK
Under minimal direction, organizes and directs the Health Information Management (HIM) Department of Family Health Centers (FHC).
Responsible for performing administrative tasks to maintain the daily operation of the HIM Department.
Supervises, monitors, and records the release of confidential information in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations.
Position Duties

Coordinates and supervises the activities of the HIM department.
Establishes and implements policies and procedures for the HIM department.
Oversees and assists in the recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and evaluation of HIM department personnel.
Oversees the development and maintenance of HIM department policies and procedures.
Coordinates coding training and provides coding reference materials for the HIM department.
Evaluates work procedures and implements alternate methods to ensure efficient operation.
Observes and educates the HIM team on the improvement of workflows and techniques.
Participates in internal and external trainings, conferences, and meetings relevant to improving HIM services in primary care settings or to the operation of FHC, as requested.
Gathers data, tracks, and reports on HIM performance measures to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
Engages in HIM program development and continuous quality improvement.
Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or a related field.
Five years of experience in Health Information Management, one of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted as determined applicable by Civil Service.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Responds to patient and FHC’s needs via the telephone, internet, fax, computer software and in person.
Lifts and moves objects weighing up to 25 lbs., with or without assistance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must provide own transportation to arrive punctually to work at other FHC locations on short notice and as needed.
