Overview:

FWI is building a team to support The NPS Museum Resource Center (MRCE) to fully inventory, catalog and weed the inventory. The entire library at the Museum Resource Center has potential as a source of regional knowledge transfer and learning.The NCR has no other NPS-managed library within the immediate area of Washington, D.C. The infrastructure for a library already exists and thousands of information resources are available in the MRCE Library, but they are inaccessible and unmaintained. As Cataloging Librarian you will fully inventory MRCE’s library, remove unwanted material, coordinate with staff on the digitization of reports, catalog holdings, and develop a standard operating procedure for long-term management and maintenance.

Work Schedule and Location:

On-Site: This full-time on-site** position will work Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30 pm at the Museum Resource Center, 3300 Hubbard Road, Landover, MD 20785

 

**Due to limited staffing, the MRCE Library and building may not be open during regular hours of operation. In these instances, the Contractor will be approved for unscheduled telework (C.4.2.). The Customer will provide at least one (1) weeks’ notice of approved unscheduled telework, except in the events of an emergency which they will notify the
contractor as soon as possible. 

Responsibilities:
  • Fully inventory MRCE’s library
  • Remove unwanted material
  • Coordinate with staff on the digitization of reports and catalog holdings
  • Develop a standard operating procedure for long-term management and maintenance
Qualifications:

Required: 

  • Ability to obtain a public trust
  • Master's degree in Library/Information Science, or a similar field, from an institution accredited by the American Library Association
  • 1 year of experience and similar responsibility in research or a Federal library
  • Shall have professional and current knowledge of library principles, philosophies, theories, systems, methods, techniques, and standard practices necessary to organize and provide access to a wide variety of information resources
  • Dewey Decimal Classification System and/or Library of Congress Classification System
  • Professional library metadata standards for bibliographic description and name and subject authorities, such as Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (current edition), USMARC format, Library of Congress Name Authorities, Library of Congress Subject Heading List, and other discipline specific, standardized thesauri
  • Experience in developing and writing library guidelines, procedures, or policies
  • The Librarian must also have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds and use ladders
