The Staff Nurse in the Ketamine Program utilizes the nursing process to ensure delivery of patient care in accordance with established ANA Psychiatric-Mental Health Standards of Practice, regulations, and Silver Hill Hospital Standards of Care. 

Schedule:

  • Part time (24 hours): 2 x12 hour shifts per week.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and coordination of the inpatient and outpatient Ketamine programs, patient care, and nursing personnel.
  • Develops and maintains competent Ketamine nursing staff in order to achieve high quality patient care and personnel satisfaction.
  • Upholds Ketamine Nursing Standards of Care for every patient.
  • Assists in providing direction and expertise within the area of Ketamine nursing on a local and national level.
  • Functions as a Ketamine nurse and educator.  

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assists in managing Ketamine Clinic operations and patient care in accordance with regulatory agency requirements, Connecticut Mental Health Code, TJC, and APA Guidelines for the Practice of Ketamine.
  • Leadership responsibilities in participating in nursing staffing standards.
  • Oversees and participates in plans for staffing coverage for each Ketamine treatment day.
  • Monitor and evaluate Ketamine patient care practices to assure that they are safe, adequate, legal, and ethical.
  • Manages and completes essential clinical documentation, checklists, and procedure records for Ketamine Clinic operations.
  • Purchase equipment, medication, etc. necessary to make Ketamine Clinic run efficiently and smoothly.
  • Collaborate with Medical Staff regarding productivity factors for unit. i.e census, trends, and costs.
  • Maintain an effective communication network including nurses, physicians, administrators, and support personnel to facilitate clinic operations.
  • Provides opportunities for Ketamine staff to participate in problem-solving, goal setting and decision-making.  
  • Collaborate with appropriate personnel and exchange Ketamine information.
  • Manages Ketamine nursing personnel in a manner that is consistent with sound administrative theory, within legal constraints and in accordance with hospital policy and procedures.
  • Maintains Ketamine Clinic Charts.
  • Maintains Ketamine Policy Manuals so that procedures and protocols are up to date.
  • Communicates with Ketamine physicians, anesthesiologists, inpatient teams, other facilities and agencies re: patient care issues.
  • Functions in the Ketamine clinic as a Prep Nurse, Treatment or Recovery Nurse as needed. 
  • Schedules patients/staff according to acuity.
  • Develops and implements Ketamine standards for patient care in collaboration with other health professionals; assists in evaluating attainment of standards though Quality Improvement and continuous daily assessments.
  • Consults and assists nurses and other staff to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and coordinate the care for Ketamine patients, families, care givers.
  • Continuous monitoring of processes and outcomes of care for patients receiving Ketamine as an inpatient and outpatient.
  • Provides group or individual guidance to staff members in developing Ketamine teaching plans to meet the learning needs of Ketamine patients and families/care givers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
  • Two years of experience in ketamine infusion program, acute care intensive care unit, recovery room, emergency room or other health care environment providing strong baseline for this position.
  • Experience in mental health, preferred.
  • Experience demonstrating proficiency with placing IVs.

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed in the state of Connecticut as a Registered Nurse.
  • Associate degree required; BSN preferred.
  • CPR BLS & CPI certification, after hire and before assignment to direct patient care.
