Department
The Parks and Recreation Department’s mission is to create community through people, parks and programs. To achieve this mission, we provide year-round recreational programs, classes, sports leagues, summer camps and events for residents of Corte Madera and surrounding communities. Activities take place at the spacious Corte Madera Community Center and adjoining 20-acre Town Park, and at other Corte Madera locations. Offerings range from soccer leagues for Kindergarten-6th graders to softball leagues for adults, and from AARP Driver Safety to computer classes for adults 55 and over to an open gym. Events include Friday Family Movies, Egg Hunts, Family Dances, Pumpkin Carving, Gingerbread House Decorating, and Big Band Dance.
Position
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of clerical tasks in the Parks and Recreation Department main office which includes customer service, program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing and may include support of special events, youth programs and other related work as required.

Position Duties
- Act as receptionist and greets and screens visitors.
- Provide information regarding Department and/or Town activities and functions.
- Perform office support activities such as: opening and closing the building for programs, events and general hours of operation.
- Answer general department phone line and answer question or forward to other departmental staff.
- Answer general email messages and/or forward them to appropriate department staff.
- Distribute mail, process outgoing mail.
- Process program registrations through recreation software system and trouble shoot client issues. Prepare reports, print reports for contract instructors and renters.
- Assist facility renters with booking reservations.
- Establish and maintain office files. Research and compile information related to building use, program participation, and other special projects as assigned.
- Assist in preparing facilities for programs and events.
- Perform duties as a Designated Disaster Service Worker per California State law during natural and manmade disasters, as needed.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Basic office practices and procedures including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
- Correct English language usage.
- Basic arithmetic.
Skill to:
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Communicate clearly and effectively.
- Take direction from a variety of upper-level staff.
- Work in a safe manner, following Town safety practices and procedures.
Ability to:
- o Work collaboratively with diverse community members and Town staff.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of daily work.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Lift and carry at least twenty (20) pounds.
- Interpret and apply rules, regulations and health and safety standards.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the participants, parents, other staff and general public.
- Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
- Maintain attention to detail despite interruptions.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule based on Departmental requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
Some experience in customer service is desirable. Experience in the field of Recreation is helpful.
Training:
Completion of high school, or equivalent (GED).
REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:
- Successfully complete a pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting.
- Negative TB test.
