Hybrid Cataloging Librarian bei Zimmerman Associates, Inc.

ZAI is seeking a Cataloging Librarian for an exciting opportunity to turn a Federal agency's collection of materials into a relevant, accessible, and discoverable resource. The Cataloging Librarian will be responsible for inventorying a 3000-item collection, weeding the collection, coordinating with federal staff on the digitization of reports, cataloging the holdings, and developing policies and procedures for long-term management and maintenance. 

Responsibilities:

·         Perform a complete, shelf-by-shelf inventory of the existing collection using an Access database.

·         Develop policies and procedures for collection development and usage

·         Weed the collection following the established policies and procedures.

·         Create original or edit existing bibliographic records following RDA, AACR2, MARC21 cataloging standards

·         Search OCLC and other bibliographic databases for records

·         Label and reorganize the materials

·         Prepare weekly project activity reports  

Qualifications:

·         MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution

·         2-3 years of experience in a government or academic library’s technical services division performing original and copy cataloging and metadata

·         Strong knowledge of MARC21, AACR2R, LC Name Authorities,

·         Experience with the application of either the Library of Congress or Dewey Decimal Classification Systems

·         Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS) system or other bibliographic database to create bibliographic records

·         Experience in developing and writing library guidelines, procedures, or policies.

·         Ability to work and think independently, including solving problems related to cataloging and collection management

·         Ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance

Physical Requirements:
 

·         Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds

·         Must be able to go up and down ladders

·         Must be able to stoop and lift materials from the ground and bottom shelves
