Job overview:
Lummus Technology operating group provides a wide range of licensed process technologies, proprietary equipment and related services to the petrochemical, petroleum refining and oil and gas industries. We are seeking a Fractionation/Tower Specialist for our Engineering group. Role will have responsibility for design and review of tower specifications, troubleshooting, tower inspection, vendor approval, vendor design/drawing reviews, development and maintenance of design standards, evaluation of new internals/trays/packings for use in Lummus applications and other activities. Position will require interfacing with other project team members during project execution, and participation in design review and progress meetings.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide specialist input and guidance on tower design to process engineers.
· Produce and review tower design specifications.
· Review vendor designs/drawings.
· Perform tower inspections.
· Keep up to date with FRI research results and industry practices for tower internals.
· Provide expert advice for the selection of tower internals (trays, packings, and associated internals) for distillation, absorption, and extraction services.
· Provide technical assistance/troubleshooting for distillation column design and operating issues, both remotely and on site.
· Evaluate new trays/packings/internals for use in Lummus applications.
· Develop and maintain design and engineering standards.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- 4-10 years of industry experience as a process Fractionation Specialist (Tower Specialist) in Refining or Petrochemicals industry.
- Experience in use of vendor software for tower design, such as KG-TOWER®, SULCOL™, etc.
- Mechanical drawing reading skills.
- Experience with mass transfer, mist elimination and heat transfer equipment.
- Ability to work at height and in confined spaces for tower inspections.
· Skilled in MS Word, Excel and Power Point
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate fluently in English.
- Willing and able to travel (domestic & international) for business trips, meetings or training.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong drive to innovate.
- Must be able to work in a dynamic, multi-national and multi-cultural environment as a committed team player.
· Motivated to learn.
· Ability to effectively drive teams, including supervision and coaching of all levels of engineers.
· Concur experience is not a requirement, but ability to pick up online systems quickly is key to the success of the role.
Basic Qualifications:
· Degree in chemical engineering, advanced degree preferred.
· Experience with internals vendors Koch-Glitsch and Sulzer preferred.
