Overview

The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), A Corporation (“A Corp”) “PC(USA)”, based in Louisville Kentucky, serve with mid-councils, congregations, worshipping communities, and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ. This community comprises the staff of national entities: the Interim Unified Agency, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian Women, Investment and Loan Program, and the Administrative Services Group.

Basic Commitment: This position calls for a commitment to the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as noted in its theological confessions, the Book of Order, and the actions of the General Assembly.

Position Purpose: 

The Accounting Clerk III is responsible for a variety of general accounts receivable support duties while ensuring the accuracy of financial records. Working under the management of the Central Receiving Manager, the Accounting Clerk III will ensure prompt payment processing, bank adjustment ledger entries, invoice generation, Lockbox check scanning, CounterPoint account maintenance, and other ad hoc duties.

Responsibilities:

1. Process daily cash/check receipts via Cash Deposit, Lockbox, ACH, Wire, Payer Express, or internal transfer by accurately entering payment data into Financial Edge and conducting research, when necessary.  This includes notifying appropriate staff when necessary.

2. Generate PCUSA invoices in Financial Edge as requested by Client Partners and routine month-end invoices.

3. Generate monthly Hubbard Press and PDS Aging Report. This includes recovering overdue account balances by phone, email, or mail, identifying small-balance accounts, identifying and entering necessary adjustments and write-offs, and account research, as needed. This requires working closely with Hubbard Press and Presbyterian Distribution Services colleagues.

4. Process checks for remote scanning into the PNC Pinnacle system online and prepare cash deposits to be deposited at PNC Bank.

5. Process PNC bank credit and debit adjustment journal entries into Financial Edge and notify the appropriate staff when necessary.

6.   Process BB Account transactions.  This includes conducting research and processing refunds and adjustments.

7. Update the Credit Card Journal and forward the spreadsheet to the appropriate staff to ensure that credit card transactions are recorded in a timely manner.

8. Create Journal Entry for monthly remote copy charges.

9. Backup to Purchasing: Generate Purchase Orders from Purchase Requisitions in the Web Purchasing Portal and update per-diem rates.

10. Backup to Accountant III - Payer Express file load.

 11. All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Accountancy or Finance preferred
  • Minimum of two years of Accounting experience, preferably in Accounts Receivable
  • Previous general accounting accounts receivable, general ledger experience, and/or work experience, preferably in a religious or non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, integrative-thinking, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working with restricted funding.
  • Proven ability to be accountable and to deliver excellence. 
  • Experience implementing new systems, processes, and strategies to increase the efficiency of work productivity, including but not limited to automating current operating practices. 
  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office products, particularly Word and Excel.  
  • Strong experience and proficiency with financial systems. Knowledge of and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 
  • Experience with Financial Edge is invaluable.
  • Occasional travel is required as assigned by the supervisor.
