The Assistant Dean of Students plays a crucial role in maintaining a positive and respectful learning environment consistent with the values and principles of the Catholic faith. Working closely with the Dean of Students and school administration, the Assistant Dean of Students assists in overseeing student behavior, enforcing disciplinary policies, and promoting a culture of responsibility, accountability, and respect among students.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of disciplinary policies and procedures consistent with the Catholic teachings and the school's mission.
- Monitor student behavior across campus, including classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and other common areas, and address any inappropriate behavior promptly and effectively.
- Conduct investigations into disciplinary incidents, gather relevant information, and work with students, parents, teachers, and administrators to resolve conflicts and disciplinary issues in a fair and constructive manner.
- Provide counseling, guidance, and support to students who exhibit challenging behaviors, helping them understand the consequences of their actions and guiding them toward positive choices and personal growth.
- Maintain accurate records of disciplinary incidents, interventions, and resolutions, and generate reports as required by school administration or regulatory agencies.
- Monitor student movement through the days, especially before and after school and during class changes. Monitor all parking areas to ensure students are properly parked and displaying parking pass.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other staff members to identify students in need of support, develop intervention strategies, and promote a positive school climate conducive to academic success and personal development.
- Communicate with parents regarding disciplinary concerns, interventions, and follow-up actions, fostering a partnership between home and school in addressing student behavior issues.
- Ensure students are serving detentions in accordance with the School Handbook.
- Stay informed about best practices in student discipline, attend relevant training sessions and workshops, and continuously seek opportunities for professional growth and skill development.
- Other duties as assigned.
