Job Purpose
At OPP, we believe every young person has inherent value, potential, and a right to thrive, even when navigating systems that have historically failed them. The Youth Development Coach (YDC) in the GO grant follow-up program ensures that justice-impacted youth have the support, resources, and guidance needed to sustain employment, overcome barriers, and reclaim agency during their critical one-year follow-up period.
The YDC is a relentless navigator, mentor, and advocate, offering consistent engagement, wraparound support, and rapid response to challenges such as job loss, housing instability, or systemic barriers. This role combines holistic youth development, program fidelity, and grant compliance, leveraging federal reporting systems (REO) while ensuring youth receive culturally grounded, individualized, and empowering supports.
Key Responsibilities
Caseload & Youth Navigation
• Manage a caseload of justice-impacted youth enrolled in the GO grant, ensuring consistent, relational engagement over a 12-month follow-up period.
• Serve as the primary navigator for youth, identifying barriers to employment, education, or wellbeing, and coordinating immediate supports.
• Rapidly respond to youth setbacks, such as job loss, by facilitating re-employment, job readiness, and connection to resources.
• Foster trusting, affirming relationships that honor youth identity, lived experience, and aspirations.
Wraparound Supports & Coaching
• Provide individualized support addressing housing, transportation, mental health, financial stability, and other barriers to success.
• Collaborate with youth to set goals, monitor progress, and build life skills, resilience, and agency.
• Facilitate workshops, engagement activities, and community experiences designed to reinforce skills, networks, and internal empowerment.
• Employ a coaching philosophy grounded in the 6Cs: Consciousness, Connection, Competence, Confidence, Compassion, Contribution.
Community Partnerships & Resource Coordination
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local partners, including employers, training providers, social services, and community organizations.
• Leverage community resources to meet youth needs, ensuring equitable access to services.
• Collaborate with external providers to coordinate wraparound services, minimizing duplication and maximizing impact.
• Serve as a liaison between youth, families, and community partners to align resources with youth goals.
Program Fidelity & Administrative Responsibilities
• Enter and maintain accurate youth records in REO and internal systems, including employment, education, and engagement documentation.
• Ensure data reflects adherence to GO grant and federal DOL standards.
• Track youth participation, outcomes, and follow-up progress to support reporting and program evaluation.
• Assist with youth outreach, communication, reminders, and follow-up activity tracking.
• Support YDC colleagues by helping achieve critical timelines and deliverables.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Education, Psychology, or related field preferred—or equivalent lived and professional experience.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience working with youth, particularly those impacted by the justice system, foster care, or systemic barriers.
• Demonstrated ability to build trust, navigate complex systems, and provide holistic support to marginalized youth.
• Skilled in coaching, mentorship, and relationship-building techniques.
• Experience using data systems (REO, case management software) for documentation and reporting.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; willingness to conduct community-based work.
