About the Department
Applications are invited for multiple positions of Adjunct Professor of Applied Music in the Department of Visual & Performing Arts to teach applied studio music lessons in multiple areas of performance expertise. Depending on an applicant’s strengths and experience there could be other teaching opportunities (e.g., other music courses, teaching lessons through the College’s YCPrep (preparatory and adult) Music Division. Other duties include holding office hours, attending semesterly juries, providing up-to-date syllabi, and communicating with department faculty and administration.
Please note: These positions are based on need and availability. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Candidates should specify which instrument(s) they are qualified to provide instruction for. The VPA Department at YCP is currently recruiting for positions in voice (tenor, baritone, or bass preferred) and percussion.
Applied Performance area should be clearly defined/stated within the Cover Letter and Vitae.
Position Duties
- Coordinate individual lesson schedules and instruct weekly lessons during Fall and Spring semesters.
- Develop a course syllabus according to departmental guidelines.
- Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Maintain regular office hours and participate in studio classes, student recitals, and end-of-semester juries.
- Complete college-wide progress reports and submission of final course grades according to college regulations.
- Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty to build and maintain the music program.
- Support student performances at music events where possible.
Minimum Qualifications
- Educational Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in music performance preferred, bachelors in a music field is required.
- Experience:
- Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred, including experience gained while in graduate school.
- Professional performance experience in the field is expected.
