The Obstetrics and Gynecology Sonographer supports Hunt Regional Specialists' Obstetrics and Gynecology practice in both clinical and administrative functions. The Sonographer is responsible for performing high-quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging in accordance with established physician protocols and patient safety standards. This role requires strong technical skills, minimal supervision, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care and exceptional customer service.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position is performed in a well-lit, clean, heated, and ventilated medical office environment. It requires prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending, and occasional lifting or positioning of patients. Normal corrected vision and hearing are essential. The Sonographer must be able to maintain focus and concentration in a high-traffic, often noisy clinical setting.
There is potential exposure to bodily fluids, communicable diseases, and radiation. These risks can be minimized by consistently observing proper safety protocols and precautions.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct.
2. Attends all required corporate integrity and compliance training programs and demonstrates proficiency in the materials presented.
3. Complies with all HIPAA standards and protects patient confidentiality at all times.
4. Accurately performs all necessary preparation for OB/GYN ultrasound studies, confirming correct patient identification, exam type, and clinical information.
5. Consistently obtains high-quality sonographic images using appropriate ultrasound procedures and techniques, with full knowledge of the technical capabilities and constraints of the ultrasound equipment.
6. Performs a full range of OB/GYN ultrasound exams, including:
⦁ First trimester viability/dating scans
⦁ Nuchal translucency measurements
⦁ Detailed fetal anatomy scans
⦁ Biophysical profiles
⦁ Transvaginal and transabdominal imaging
7. Ensures optimal image quality and thorough documentation in PACS and EHR systems.
8. Prepares and transfers images per protocol, including CD copies and digital imports.
9. Accurately interprets physician orders and collaborates with clinical staff to provide patient-centered care.
10. Ensures that all ultrasound equipment, including probes and accessories, is properly cleaned, maintained, and prepared for use.
11. Assures that the ultrasound exam room is clean, orderly, and well-stocked at all times.
12. Maintains proper documentation for each patient, including full name, date of birth, type of exam, and referring provider.
13. Ensures all vascular and pelvic studies are completed accurately and in a timely manner, when applicable.
14. Operates and troubleshoots ultrasound equipment; reports any malfunctions or issues promptly.
15. Maintains a safe working environment and follows infection control, safety, and emergency protocols.
16. Remains composed and competent in emergency or high-stress clinical situations.
17. Greets and rooms patients in a courteous and professional manner; collects vital signs and medical history as needed.
18. Reconciles medications, assists with provider procedures, and maintains clean and prepared treatment areas.
19. Enters demographic and clinical information into the EHR system accurately.
20. Coordinates referrals (incoming and outgoing), processes prescriptions, and provides patient education as directed.
21. Prepares charts and supports providers with clinical documentation as needed.
22. Demonstrates strong working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
23. Answers and returns phone calls professionally; manages voicemail communications in a timely manner.
24. Schedules and confirms patient appointments and ensures proper EHR registration and updates.
25. Performs accurate data entry for all patient records and documents within the facility's systems.
26. Manages pre-authorizations and insurance verifications for relevant diagnostic procedures.
27. Scans and indexes documents into the EHR and prepares documentation for external transmission via fax, mail, or electronic means.
28. Supports team efforts and departmental needs by assisting in other trained areas and performing additional duties as assigned.
29. Maintains current certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) and renews as required.
