Cafe General Manager

Salary: $72,000–$92,000 annually, based on experience
Location: Woodstock, NY

At Bread Alone, our cafés are lively places where community matters and great food brings people together. We’re seeking an experienced General Manager to lead our busy Woodstock, NY café. The right person has the confidence to take charge, the skills to train and support their team, and the ability to lead with kindness and clarity while keeping the café running at its best.
As General Manager, you’ll be in charge of all parts of our café and restaurant-style service, leading a close team that takes pride in their work and in making every guest feel welcome. You’ll create a supportive, inclusive environment where both team members and guests feel they belong. You’ll help your team grow, keep service consistent, maintain the café’s clean and inviting look, and support strong financial results. This is a hands-on role, working on the line as needed to lead by example and keep service smooth and standards high.

- Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations

- Flexible schedule of 40–50 hours per week (typically 45), including weekends and holidays.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily café operations to deliver exceptional guest experiences and meet sales, profitability, and engagement goals
- Maintain high standards for food, beverage, service speed, and product presentation
- Hire, train, coach, and recognize supervisors, baristas, counter staff, and kitchen crew to build a strong, stable, and engaged team
- Create schedules, manage labor costs, and ensure payroll accuracy
- Manage the café P&L in partnership with leadership, track performance, and take action to improve results
- Ensure accurate cash handling, inventory management, and ordering
- Maintain compliance with all health, safety, and sanitation regulations
- Collaborate with bakery, wholesale, marketing, and other internal teams to meet company goals
- Lead by example, including working alongside the team on the line during busy periods to maintain service speed and quality
- Foster a positive work environment, promote teamwork, and motivate staff to deliver excellent customer service
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for various areas, including front-of-house, back-of-house, and customer service
Qualifications
- 5+ years of management experience in a restaurant, café, or hospitality leadership role
- Passion for organic food, café / bakery and coffee culture, and community engagement
- Track record of leading diverse and inclusive teams, improving operations, and driving revenue
- Skills in hiring, training, coaching, and retaining staff
- Financial management experience, including budgeting, cost control, and reviewing P&L statements
- Organized, adaptable, and able to make sound decisions under pressure
- Knowledge of food safety and operational compliance standards
- Excellent customer service, leadership, and communication skills
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, bend, twist, and lift up to 50 lb
- Commitment to maintaining excellent personal hygiene and food safety standards
- Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
Workweek Expectations
- Full-time, on-site position averaging 5 days per week
- Weekend and holiday availability required; our cafés are open daily from 7am–5pm, 363 days a year
- Occasional off-hours or extra coverage will be needed during busy times or special events, with schedules planned in advance whenever possible
- We work hard, but we also want to work with you to plan for time off and support a healthy balance between work and personal life
