About the Department
The nationally accredited Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is looking for a Tennis Aide I to work at the Cary Tennis Park. The Tennis Aide I will perform routine, light maintenance and janitorial duties, especially during tournaments and special events; work directly with the public to educate patrons about the benefits/differences in the different types of string and grips; and string racquets as requested.
Work is performed under regular supervision following regularly established routines subject to more general instructions. Work schedule will vary depending upon events and classes.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Position Duties
- Assists full-time tennis park staff and/or tennis professionals
- Performs light maintenance and janitorial duties
- Strings tennis racquets according to consumer demand
- Educates patrons about the benefits/differences in the different types of string and grips
- Offers extra help during tournaments and special events
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- General knowledge of the game and rules of tennis
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors
- Ability to work weekends and evenings
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town and community officials, employees, media personnel, volunteer groups and the public
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and the public verbally and in writing.
Other Qualifications
Education and Experience
Must be at least 14 years of age.
Tennis playing experience and racquet stringing experience preferred.
Willingness to become certified by the United States Racquet Stringers Association (USRSA) is preferred.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to be out on the tennis courts, in some cases in extreme weather conditions. Must be physically able to lift up to 20 pounds, and have good manual dexterity to work with the string during the racquet stringing process
