The Spice House is looking for an Assistant Store Manager who knows about and enjoys food & cooking, has the ability to share this knowledge with our customers, and is excited to teach these skills to our next generation of Spice Merchants. The ideal candidate will have retail experience, strong customer service and leadership skills, and infectious enthusiasm.


Responsibilities:


Creating a Unique and Exciting Store Experience:

  • Delivers exceptional customer experiences and promotes a culture of customer service
  • Energizes, motivates, and inspires team members to hit store financial targets through upselling/cross-selling, customer outreach, and customer engagement
  • Leads and develops talent alongside the General Manager, providing real-time coaching and development by being side-by-side on the sales floor and leading by example
  • Collaborate with Visual and General Manager to bring Marketing stories and initiatives to life in the store through on-brand displays and merchandising
  • Keep staff up to date on upcoming product stories, sales, and promotions
  • Assist with all Special Events and traffic initiatives at the retail location including monthly events, identifying partnerships (in conjunction with marketing), and educational spice discussions.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Assist the General Manager with indirectly overseeing staff in their absence, train new team members, and ensure that all staff receive equivalent training on all essential functions, including upselling/cross-selling and providing superior customer service
  • Support staff to build revenue generation through sales training and product education while ensuring store profitability.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Ensure store and employee compliance with all company Policies and Procedures
  • Oversee store maintenance and safety upkeep
  • Inventory management - Work with GM to manage store inventory, including floor and backstock organization, routine inventory counts and reporting, ordering and receiving processes, and accuracy in POS procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years retail leadership experience, high volume store preferred
  • Minimum 3-5 years in a sales focused role and responsible for the development of a sales teams
  • Friendly, outgoing demeanor with a strong commitment to customer service - You genuinely like to connect with people!
  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and action orientated with a drive for results
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and persuasively when connecting with customers and making sales
  • Calm, professional and able to problem solve
  • Hands on approach to day-to-day operations: selling, customer engagement, stocking and replenishing the store and stockroom, to set an example for the team
  • Absolute professionalism and ability to create a culture of professionalism in your store
  • Weekend availability required

Reports to: General Manager

Classification: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt (Employees must adhere to the assigned work schedule and be at the assigned station in the store at the start of their shift)

Compensation: Pay rate ranges from $19-21/hr based on experience, plus quarterly sales incentive
