Responsible for supervising the operation and maintenance of the wastewater collection system lift stations. Assures that the collection system permit requirements pertaining to lift stations are met. Assign, oversee and may perform work assignments ranging from alarm testing, pump station maintenance and grounds maintenance. Assures that the required documentation for the operation of lift stations is kept within state guidelines. Work is performed under the general direction of the Division Superintendent, and is expected to be completed without immediate supervision. Emergencies will require recall for off-duty hours. Supervises crews of skilled maintenance mechanics; assigns work duties, inspects work, and ensures work meets all applicable codes and standards, and ensures compliance with all policies.
- Compiles reports & all required documentation of the operation, testing, and maintenance of over 65 lift stations.
- Supervise operation and maintenance of all wastewater pumping stations.
Position Duties
- Supervises skilled maintenance staff assigned to maintain and repair water, wastewater and lift station equipment; assigns and oversees corrective maintenance work orders; supervises staff, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work, training and coaching; convenes and facilitates staff meetings; and ensures compliance with applicable safety and operational policies and procedures.
- Monitors supplies and equipment; orders and receives parts; researches price information; obtains quotes from vendors; and makes purchasing recommendations.
- Prepares, maintains, and reviews reports, records, permits, and other documentation; maintains databases and online systems; compiles, reviews and/or submits documentation; reviews work for accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborates with vendors, City departments, and/or external agencies; provides technical maintenance assistance; and makes repair recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED
- 5 years of related experience preferably with waste water pump stations,
- 2 years of prior supervisory experience
- Qualified as Competent Person in Occupational Safety Hazards Association (OSHA) standards for confined space entry
- Knowledge of applicable waste water laws and regulations
- Knowledge of maintenance procedures for pumps, motors and related equipment
- Knowledge of How to rig equipment for hoisting or moving
- Knowledge of lift station SCADA systems
- Intermediate ability to read blueprints, drawings, maps and mathematical calculations
- Additional on-the-job and/or safety related certifications may be required by the City.
Trainings/Certifications not needed at time of hire but required within timeframe listed:
- Grade III Water Pollution Control Collection Systems Operator certification within 2 years of hire
- AWWA Maintenance Technologist II within two years of hire;
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement within six months of hire
Other Qualifications
- Associates degree or greater
- Grade IV Water Pollution Control Collection Systems Operator certification
- AWWA Maintenance Technologist III or greater
