About the Department

Grays Harbor College is now accepting applications for a Custodial Supervisor (Custodian 5). The Custodian 5 reports to the Director of Facilities and Campus Operations.  This position supervises all custodians and manages the custodial services department which encompasses multiple building complexes.  The Custodian 5 will have responsibility for planning, organizing, executing, controlling and evaluating activities and functions of the organization, including budget, policies, procedures and staff supervision. They will also help support event planning and execution on Campus. They are responsible for Campus during evening hours and on call for building and custodial emergencies. This is a working custodial position.  
 
This position typically works Monday – Friday, 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm, with occasional weekend work.  In addition to salary posted, this position will receive shift premium pay in the amount of $435 per month.   Grays Harbor College has an excellent benefits package to include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, primary and supplemental retirement programs and long-term disability insurance. Full-time employees will also receive 11.33 hours of vacation leave per month to start, 8 hours of sick leave per month, and 4 personal leave days a year.  Washington state also observes 11 paid holidays per year.

Position Duties

  • Supervises daily work of full-time and part-time custodians to include occasional weekends; inspects all assigned areas daily to ensure work is being carried out properly and orderly; prepares and submits work schedules. Including supervision of custodial staff on Raymond and Ilwaco Campuses. 
  • Hires and evaluates performance of custodial personnel. 
  • Designates shift and area work assignments for custodians; conducts training programs for custodians; implements new procedures and policies. 
  • Maintains records and correspondence; prepares reports; submits purchase requisitions for supplies; maintains supply inventory and accounts; contacts vendors; prepares and submits progress reports on building conditions. 
  • Establishes and monitors working relationships with students, faculty, staff, co-workers, and visitors. 
  • Coordinates various cleaning projects; receives equipment and supplies; operates all cleaning equipment. 
  • Coordinates the reservation of Campus spaces in 25live and ensures proper set up and clean up occurs. Liaison to outside groups requesting to use spaces, gives tours when requested. 
  • Coordinates setup and teardown for events on all campuses and ensures proper staffing for events. 
  • Makes rounds, checks or inspects for security purposes or to determine condition of facility and equipment and takes necessary corrective action for deficiencies. 
  • Keeps inventory of furnishings, supplies and equipment; prepares reports.
  • Serves as security/on call Campus contact for evenings. 
  • Performs various custodial tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA degree
  • Two to four years’ experience supervising or directing others in large-scale housekeeping, janitorial, general or building maintenance or custodial work.   May substitute supervision/directing others with 5 or more years of relevant work/experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bi-Lingual English/Spanish
