The is responsible for the developing, maintaining and enforcing quality and infection control standards within all Springfield Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center Service Lines.
Job Relationships
Reports to the Manager, ASC Infection Control & Quality Management
Principal Responsibilities
- Perform infection control surveillance of all staff and providers, promoting good practices.
- Provide infection control education to all staff and providers in the ASC.
- Comply with regulatory and accrediting agencies such as AAAHC, OSHA, CDC, and CMS.
- Conduct and document training to ensure constant implementation of regulatory and infection control practices.
- Obtain and manage data and information collected, including infection control surveillance.
- Assist the Manager of ASC Quality Management in developing, maintaining and updating regulatory and infection control policies and procedures.
- Update and maintain departmental SharePoint site regarding departmental policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the ASC Infection Control/Quality Manager to investigate and report quality concerns.
- Perform necessary and regulatory audits.
- Review daily/monthly/quarterly required recordkeeping.
- Review customer satisfaction scores and data.
- Work on a routine basis with Nursing Operations and Clinical Development Departments as it relates to emergency preparedness.
- Assist ASC QM Manager in maintaining and updating Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
- Assist in identifying infection risks of new products and procedures.
- Prepare reports for committees, accrediting bodies, and mandatory questionnaires.
- Serve as a consultant on matters relating to infection prevention and control.
- Identify and conduct community (external) and Clinic (internal) assessments of high-risk areas related to acquiring and transmitting infections among patients, employees, physicians, vendors, other practitioners, volunteers, students, and visitors.
- Conduct periodic on-site surveys for the ASC to ensure compliance with policy and procedures for infection control.
- Coordinate and execute annual Employee Flu Vaccine Clinic
- Conduct required emergency drills
- Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
- Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
- Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Requires associate or bachelor’s degree with current Illinois RN license.
- Must maintain Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) membership.
- Familiarity with pertinent requirements or regulatory and advisory bodies is required.
- Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience preferably health-related field such as Infection Control or Public Health.
Licenses/Certificates
- Current CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines is required.
- Certification in infection prevention and control (CIC) through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) or work towards achieving within 18 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to motivate and persuade staff to embrace infection control principles is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer and problem-solving skills are required.
- Ability to conduct training seminars and exercises is required.
- Knowledge of nursing practices and techniques for data collection is required.
- Must be highly energetic with the ability to develop teaching materials and training programs.
- Must be mobile throughout the clinic.
Working Environment
- Normal office environment with computer and phone use.
- Travel required up to 25% of time
- Occasional heavy lifting required.
- Conditions include potential exposure to blood and body fluids, tissue and contagious diseases and/or potentially hazardous materials.
