People Places, a 50+ year 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is looking for an IT professional to join our team! This is an immediate opening.

Founded in 1973 in Staunton, Virginia, People Places is a private, not for profit social services agency serving Staunton, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, and the surrounding areas. We provide an array of foster care, adoption, and community based services. We are passionate about supporting our clients, foster families, and staff to achieve excellent outcomes. Our mission is to foster resilience in children and families so they can thrive.
About the Role:
As an IT Specialist, you will provide exceptional IT support for our staff. You will take ownership of employee support and other aspects of our information systems. You will report to the IT Manager. The position is full time, paid hourly, requiring at least 37.5 hours per week. The schedule is typically Monday through Friday 8:30am through 4:30pm. Some infrequent early morning, evening, or weekend work is required. The position is based out of our Staunton, VA office; however, you will regularly travel to our Charlottesville and Harrisonburg offices. Reliable transportation is required. A hybrid work schedule of remote and in-office work is available. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are required in-office days.

Who You Are:
You are a trustworthy, friendly, and patient IT professional who is dedicated to providing effective support to your coworkers. You are a critical thinker who can work a problem from start to finish. You may not know everything, but you’re excited to figure it out.
What You’ll Do:
- Diagnose and solve issues related to IT equipment, including: computers, phones, printers, networking equipment, and other IT resources
- Install and maintain IT equipment and software
- Create, update, and maintain documentation and inventory
- Implement and assist in the development of IT policies and procedures
- Work with a diverse set of technologies, including: Google Workspace, Linux, Windows, Chrome OS, Android, and iOS
- Work with the IT manager to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization
- Treat all people fairly, consistently, and with respect
Requirements
What You’ll Bring:
- A high school degree or equivalent
- High ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive mental health information
- Experience with setup, maintenance, and use of computer and mobile devices
- Experience with setup, maintenance, and use of printers and other IT equipment
- A willingness to learn new technologies and skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Ability to read and comprehend technical documentation and manuals
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple demands
Nice-to-Haves:
- Education or certification in Information Technology or related field
- Experience with voice over IP technology
