About the Role
Burton James is seeking a talented and detail-driven Lead Finisher to oversee our wood finishing operations. This position is responsible for executing and maintaining the high standard of finishes our clients expect – including custom color creation, consistent finish replication, and meticulous attention to detail. The ideal candidate has a deep knowledge of wood finishing techniques, works well independently, and can lead a small crew to ensure consistent craftsmanship across all finished pieces. This individual embraces and supports our in-person/on-site work culture and embodies our company values of Ownership, Collaboration and Respect.
What you can do for us:
· Mix and apply custom stains, glazes, and topcoats to match samples or create new finishes
· Execute specialty techniques such as wire-brushed textures, stain layering, cerused finishes, and hand-padded finishes
· Ensure consistent application of stains, sealers, lacquers, and specialty finishes across various wood species
· Review production orders and finish specs to ensure accuracy
· Conduct final inspections of finished pieces to confirm color match, clarity, sheen, and overall quality
· Collaborate with the design, carpentry, and production teams to ensure finish selections are appropriate for the piece and achievable within timeline constraints
· Maintain detailed records of finish formulas and processes to ensure consistency
· Train and lead a small team of finishers, providing direction and hands-on support as needed
· Maintain inventory of finishing materials and communicate purchasing needs
· Troubleshoot finish-related issues and recommend improvements to both process and product
· Assist with installing bases, legs, and other finished components as needed, and perform high-level touch-ups where needed – ensuring any corrections are clean, consistent, and virtually undetectable.
What we can do for you:
- Play a pivotal role in our company’s transformation and growth
- Align with a growing company that operates in the luxury market
- Provide training and career development opportunities
- Offer 3 weeks paid time off and 6 paid holidays per service year
- Enjoy a high-paced and collaborative work environment
- Receive up to 6% 401k employer contributions
