Position Summary
The Pingry School is seeking skilled, dependable Mechanical Technicians to join the Facilities team at our Basking Ridge Campus. This full-time, 12-month, hourly role supports the daily operations and long-term care of our academic, mechanical, and athletic spaces.

The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in general maintenance or trades work, a proactive mindset, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Whether your background includes mechanical systems, electrical work, or general facilities upkeep, we’re looking for professionals who take pride in their craft and are ready to contribute to a high-functioning, team-oriented department.

The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with flexibility for occasional overtime or weekend hours to support inclement weather events, athletics, or campus programming.

Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance and functionality of building systems across campus.
  • Perform a range of tasks including:
    • HVAC filter and belt changes.
    • Boiler and mechanical system checks.
    • Basic plumbing, lighting, or electrical maintenance.
      Pool chemical monitoring and seasonal upkeep.
    • Repairs to doors, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Assist with snow removal, inclement weather response, and seasonal transitions.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces and mechanical areas.
  • Respond to supervisor-issued work orders and help identify recurring issues.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors on in-house repairs and projects.
  • Provide technical insight or trade-specific support where experience allows.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to walk, stand, or crouch for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently when needed, and contribute to a team.
  • Positive work attitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Preferred but not required:

  • Prior experience in facilities, mechanical systems, trades, or general maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical systems, plumbing, or HVAC.
  • Experience with pool chemical treatment or mechanical system monitoring.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, or building maintenance equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor in a school or campus setting.

The hourly rate range for this position is $18 to $30 per hour. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and education.
