Job Overview:

The Optician will be responsible for assisting patients with eyeglass selection, fitting, and dispensing contact lens, as well as supporting the optometry team in providing outstanding care. This role involves working closely with patients to assess their vision needs and ensuring they receive high-quality, properly fitted eyewear. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, compassionate professional with a commitment to improving patient care in a diverse, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with selecting eyeglasses and contact lens based on their prescription and personal preferences.
  • Take measurements for eyeglass fittings, including pupil distance (PD), segment height and other necessary specifications.
  • Ensure accurate fitting and adjustment of eyeglasses to ensure comfort and proper functionality.
  • Educate patients on proper eyewear care, lens types, and frames.
  • Collaborate with the optometry team to verify prescriptions and ensure patients receive optimal vision care.
  • Maintain patient records, including tracking eyewear orders and dispensing information.
  • Manage inventory of frames, lenses, and other optical supplies; assist with restocking and organizing as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety and health regulations, including proper sanitation and cleaning of eyewear products.
  • Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with other duties related to the optometry department as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Licensure: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Active SC Opticians certification.
  • Experience: Prior experience as an optician or in an optical setting preferred, but not required. On-the-job training available.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of optical terminology, eyewear products, and fitting techniques.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain eyewear options and adjustments to patients.
    • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a healthcare environment.
    • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining a positive, patient-focused attitude.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to work with diverse patient populations, including those with low-income or uninsured status.
    • Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills a plus, but not required.
