Position Duties
- No prior security experience or certifications are necessary.
- Qualifying applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Qualifying applicants must possess one of the following:
- A high school diploma; a General Education Development (GED) certificate; or a four-year, post-secondary degree issued by an accredited degree-granting college or university.
- Qualifying applicants must be of good moral fitness as determined by a criminal background check. A lack of good moral fitness includes, but is not limited to, mandatory and discretionary disqualifying misconduct as described in OAR 259-060-0300.
- Preference will be given to qualifying applicants who possess a current Unarmed Security Provider certification through Oregon DPSST.

- Must pass a criminal background check prior to hire.
Minimum Qualifications
Example of Principle Duties and Position Functions:
- Serves as a security officer in state court and county facilities.
- Screens individuals entering the assigned facilities to locate and prohibit contraband items and/or weapons from entering.
- Performs random and routine area searches, both interior and exterior of the assigned facilities, to locate potential contraband or hazardous items.
- Maintains a good rapport with public, court employees, and Sheriff’s Office staff.
- Responds to facility mechanical emergencies as required.
- Responds to basic medical emergencies as required.
- Operates metal detector and x-ray equipment.
- Assists with facility evacuations when necessary.
- Communicates with others in stressful and non-stress situations.
- Prepares written reports when necessary.
- Effectively communicates with the public, providing direction and referral to governmental services.
- Attends and participates in required trainings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Position requires familiarity with methods and techniques of security and enforcement; knowledge of and ability to operate two-way radios and surveillance equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions.
- Must be able to communicate courteously, professionally and effectively with general public and members of the legal community, explaining court policies and procedures as well as directing access to resources.
- Qualifying applicants must possess one of the following:

Licenses, Certificates and Other
- A DPSST Unarmed Private Security license must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Must pass an in-depth background check investigation and drug screening prior to hiring.
Physical Demands (Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following physical demands and/or working conditions)
Tasks involve frequent walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and climbing as well as lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight and varying size and shape, sometimes overhead; minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body in the operation of communications equipment.
Working Environments
- Duties are primarily performed indoor. May include exposure to disruptive people.
