About the Department

We’re looking for a Municipal Court Administrator to provide administrative, technical, and supervisory support to the Durango Municipal Court. In this role, you’ll lead a small team, manage case flow, coordinate with various agencies, and play an important role in ensuring effective and efficient operations. If you're a proactive problem-solver with strong communication skills and a commitment to serving our community, we encourage you to apply.

Position Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Supervise and support court staff. You’ll be responsible for scheduling, training, and evaluating court personnel to keep daily operations running smoothly.
  • Oversee case flow management. This includes handling everything from citation payments and warrants to setting trials and processing appeals. You’ll also provide support for Specialty Court functions and the Defensive Driving School as needed.
  • Collaborate with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies. You’ll serve as a primary point of contact for the City Attorney’s Office, the Durango Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepare and record courtroom proceedings. You’ll set up equipment, call court into session, and coordinate with attorneys, defendants, and witnesses.
  • Prepare and maintain court records. You will be the custodian of court records, including legal documents like appeals and warrants, and handle requests for information according to legal procedures.
  • Manage restitution and bond funds. This includes monitoring restitution payments to victims and processing all court-related payments, including the daily cash drawer.
  • Crosstrain with the City Clerk's office. You will be expected to be familiar with the procedures of the City Clerk's office.
  • Stay current on legal changes. You’ll keep up to date on legislation affecting court procedures and processes to maintain compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:

  • An associate degree with major coursework in paralegal, business administration, business management, public administration, or a closely related field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in administrative support or court operations.
  • An understanding of court procedures and laws.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to effectively compile and maintain accurate records, understand and follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate clearly with the public and coworkers.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Experience with office equipment and specialized software.
  • The ability to handle confidential information and adhere to strict guidelines for the proper use and distribution of sensitive information, including that obtained from National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Colorado Crime Information Center (CCIC).
